Hi jr73,
I didn't buy my car with the intention of keeping it. I thought I would sell it just as I had with the other cars I'd owned to that point.
I haven't sold it up to now and have no intention of selling it today. Wondering if I would sell it for millions of dollars is just silly.
It makes absolutely no difference how much money I've spent on it over the years, or what it might be worth.
I liked it the day I bought it and I like it now. It has though, given me pleasure far beyond what I ever thought a car could.
Regards,
Alan

I have no intentions of selling my '70 and my wife says that I'll be buried in it. But with that said, everything has a price and life does get in the way of hobbies so if needed and I had to sell, I would for the greater cause. It would break my heart but I'd know that's the right thing to do... now start the bidding.... KIDDING!!

I always wanted a corvette since I was 12. I knew one day I would have one. Well I finally jumped on a 76 that I liked and I have had it for the last 17 years. I have way more money in it than what I could sell it for and don't really care. I bought it for keeps. My oldest will get it when I die, which he knows, and I am sure he will probably pop on here with pictures asking you guys questions about it, because it's unique in many ways.
I also have a 94 corvette I enjoy, only have had it for a couple years and my youngest will get that when I die. He will have better luck asking question because it's all stock except for the wheels.

Hi RMV,
I think the photo is early 1948.
I loved that little jeep.
Notice the 'kink' in the left side front bumper…. coming down our hill too fast….swerved into a maple tree!

Alan

I've been asked if I would sell my '68 BB before.
I reply sure as soon as I find something I like better.
Haven't found anything better.
I toyed with the notion of a 55 chevy but still can't bring myself to do it.

If I wanted an investment I would have bought real estate!
I sold an awesome Harley a few years back. I have no idea where the money went and I still regret selling!
I won't make the same mistake. My will states the Vette goes to my son and one of my Grandkids after him.

I bought my 74 because I was having a mid life crisis. Told the wife it's either a car or a girlfriend...she said get a girlfriend, take the pressure off her...I bought the car.
I have had it for 5 years, I have done the interior, steeroids, 1200 watt stereo, Fierro seats, plus a ton of small upgrades along the way. There are plenty of more to come.
I have realized that I have lost interest in the car right now. I think I have A.D.D. I have resolved myself that I will get the car finished for when I retire. That's about 10 years or so. Until then, I will work on it here and there when I feel like it. The car owes me nothing. I pay $200.00/year for insurance, so it costs me nothing.
My youngest daughter wants the vette. She said will it to her. My other daughter wants nothing to do with it, so the path for the car is clear. Since she is 5'3" and er boyfriend is about 5'4 they will both fit in there easily. I'm 5'8" and it's tight getting in.
Would I sell the car?
Maybe.
If I got enough from it to buy a newer one (c5+) I would consider it.
It's my legacy if I leave the 74 to my daughter. Otherwise there is only memories and some furniture.

Bought my '80 about 27 years ago with 43K on the clock. A clean, original, solid, pretty car. Fast forward it has 48K on the clock (obviously driven sparingly) and still looks and runs great. With the prices they get at resale these days there is no real motivation to sell. Who knows, I might get an itch to do a different car as a restomod and let someone else have this one.

In May of 2017, I marked my 20th year of owning my '80 L48. Purchased for $8,300 and it had a TIRED drivetrain. In the 20 years of ownership, I've rebuilt or replaced 100% of the drivetrain, new interior, some electrical and every suspension component.
I rarely drive it and it now sits waiting for a new set of rings, radiator repair and transmission seal replacement. I keep it covered 100%. I have kept it while leasing a C5 (traded back in for a Silverado) and a 3-year ownership of a '69 L46 (that was a fun car with the L88 hood, close ratio 4-speed, 4.10's and stainless chambered exhaust).
I've compiled a HUGE collection of C3 paperbacks, shop, assembly and a 'Motors' books collection that covers all years of the vette up to the early 80's.
Sell??? I'd just replace it with another. So, I have my vette and as long as I have my mind, I will keep it.

i dont care about value...if someone paid enough id sell. in a "need to" mode but at this point why bother.
Reg and ins is paid up its there if I want it, theres really no thought about $
I pity those who fret over it.
Go through enough of em you just gotta be happy with what you have they are all the same to a point

I am only in my mid-40s which puts me younger than a lot of people here I think. Not too long ago I had a very comfortable six-figure salary and as many toys as I wanted. Motorcycles were my thing, I had 11 at the time and was also involved in racing which I'm sure many of you know is a very expensive hobby.
After my accident I have lost the ability to use my hands so I have lost all of my hobbies, my career, and my source of income. I sold almost everything that I owned in order to pay for food for my children since then. Finding a Corvette to restore as part of how I am coping with losing everything that I have lost. So yes, I'm going to be on a budget.
That said, it was never my intention to get rid of any of those motorcycles and I will be approaching this Corvette with the same mindset. It would take a lot for me to have to get rid of it when I do find it because I know from past experiences that once I invest my heart and soul into building this the way that I wanted I will not want to get rid of it.
I have tons of respect for people who approach these hobbies with the mindset that is shown here. To me, the car will represent more than a sum of its parts. I greatly enjoy the building process and in doing so it becomes worth so much more to me.
In the end, I will do what I must for my family and if my circumstances dictate I will sell the car if I absolutely have to. That said, it would be one of the absolute last things to go before he got to the point.
Now I just need to find the right car to start my journey.

I have no intentions on selling my 72...As a matter of fact it's already in my will that it goes to my Son..... But I'm the odd man out here in that I keep up with every dime spent....That's just the way I am.....How much I spend depends on how much disposable cash I have on hand.
