Curious if there are many here who have no intention of selling their Vette, and bought it to just keep. Anyone here who is not interested in the value of their car versus the money they have put or are about to put into it.
When I read threads on potential buyers here asking for advice nearly all the replies are advising not to buy because the amount invested will exceed the final value of the car. There must be those here who spend the money because they just plain want a Corvette because they want to own and drive one and are building them for themselves.

Sure, im one,

Gm doesnt build the perfect c3 for me so i am, i dont care how much i invest or its value, its already priceless to me,

dont get the wrong idea im not a "look at me throw money at it to make it happen" builder,

Builders who impress me do it on a budget,

I have zero intentions of selling my 69,
The one exception,
i might if there was some cosmic alignment of planets swap for a modded c2, knowing a c2 would likely have a higher value than my 69 i might have to add money or take a c2 with flawed ( salvage ) title to make it even,

But i dont see that happening and i dont actively look.

That's me- no intention of selling my 71...Had it almost 37 years.

I'm building it the way I want it-throw away all my receipts and use cash whenever possible...don't want any traces!!!

Value to me? It's all the friends I have made through my build.

Have my 88 for 17 years and my 71 for 14 years....most likely will never sell them. My two boys may end up with them some day... never know though if things change.

Bought this '69 28 years ago. I was a teenager. Found the original owner who kept all the paperwork and many original parts. Got mom in Vette Magazine's ladies issue 3 times with it. Too much sentimental value.

I'm keeping my '68 resto-mod convertible project thanks to helpful Forum Members/also within budget ........(of course I'm still removing previous owner '76???fiberglass panels???from it/see avatar pic )

Bought my 74' a few years ago. Was my first Vette that I paid for. No plans on ever selling it. The 69' is dad's car at this point but I do all the maintenance and upkeep. He and mom bought it in 1976. That car will stay with them/me forever too. My 02' Z06 I am not so sure. Bought it to have a near perfect low mileage car with lots of power and creature comforts. Fantastic car. No plans to sell at this point. I am just enjoying it for now. I May sell it for a C6Z someday. I May keep it forever. Whatever I do it's been awesome either way.

Edit. They are all money pits. New or old. Do not ever buy one with an investment on your mind. These cars are for enjoyment no matter what shape they are in when you buy them.

I wanna add another disclaimer,

Not realistic but if i was offered enough for my 69 i would likely jump,

Some cats might have more money and or sentimental reasons not to take any amount offered no matter how high but i do wonder,
If some rich millionaire wasnt into buying wives for the night but rather grossly overpaying for a c3s
i wonder how many cats would go ahead and sell...and buy another and stash the rest,

In my case again not relistic but if someone offered me enough to buy something i like ( modded ) and up to par, meaning i could jump in it and drive it i would likely in that type situation sell my 69, ( or swap )

But thats just not gonna happen....

The money would definitely be tempting if a buyer came to you. I tend to hold on to things forever but not ruling out an upgrade. I really like my 73 but my dream Vette is a big block 69.

My first Corvette was a used black 69 427 auto that I bought in 1970 when I was 21 years old. I made the mistake of selling it but have always owned a Corvette since then. I have had around 35 of them but always missed that 69. My wife was a few hundred miles away from home visiting her mother and driving to the mall for some shoes and she saw a forlorn 69 sitting on the side of the road with a sign on it. The guy that owned it had died after only driving it twice and it sat in the garage for quite awhile until it was decided to, well, push it out to the road. Jennifer called me. She said, "I just found a 1969 427 Corvette for you. Don't ask questions. Don't complain. Get your *** in gear, find a trailer, and get here now". These are the phone pics she sent me from the guy's driveway back in 2013 with that call.






I made the drive, picked up the car and told my wife that was the nicest thing she could have ever done for me. It turned out to be all original except for the water pump, front brake calipers and was painted once in the original type enamel sometime before 1994. Original interior, drivetrain with numbers on everything including the carpets
I still have the car, have no plans to sell and have had a number of people ask. Kind of flattering.

The car today. Same old paint rubbed out to a two footer by hand which is probably why my shoulders no longer work as they should.

Also in the club. It was my father's car he bought new; and I had to track it down 10 years after he sold it - so I can't exactly replace it. It's THE car I was enamoured with when I was just a little kid.

I can't drive it without people making offers, even had some get pretty upset with me. I figure, if I was a millionaire, how much would I pay to get my father's all original car back? Probably a LOT more than any sane individual would pay me. After dragging it out of the barn where it was left for dead and getting into the shape today, there is no better feeling than I get from driving it.

I like the 73 look, my 69 had that look when i got it,
I could never afford a nice factory bb 69 convertible but i can make a fake one for cheap,
I do understand to some it has to be factory built, i respect that.

I guess saying it never happens isnt accurate,

I had the money thing hit me a few years ago,

I had a somewhat rare kit car that i didnt think i would ever sell,

Some way a young guy looking for one learned i had it and hit me up about it being for sale,

I replied its not for sale, that no one would give me what i would take to get off it, lol,

His reply was an offer about 3 times what it was worth going rate,
I thought a joker and was kind of smart ***,

He says let my dad call you,
Long story cut shorter,

Dad calls, made the deal, bank wired the loot,

They had been looking and knew what my car had....wanted it more than i did,
Bought the 69 with that.

Business is good so refreshing cost is not the major concern. I know what I want, and I can afford to be ****. I want to preserve my '81 shark that I purchased last year for another 35 years. I hope I last that long to enjoy it. And if I don't I hope someone else will.

The fact is you shouldnt care if you impress me or anyone, ;-)

Pride in our cars is great being a taco not so much so,
I am all for having unlimited cash to drop on whatever a person desires to,
But they dont have to be a dbag about it,

And while it is true i am very impressed when people build on a budget as it takes planning and thought like when a guy goes after an ncrs award, ( which costs huge money but takes so much hard work, unless it was bought turn key )

I have nothing against any builder with a gain of humility,
I dont have any use for the look at me, my car, what i spent on it chest pounding types,
I dont recall you doing that,

Actually, im very impressed with your car,
I wish more people took that pride in the later c3s,

I had two 81s so i like em, my first, i went nuts, my nightclub was going great and i built a wide body show queen i didnt spare any expense and it did take a lot of the fun out of the car,

Had i not gone so radical i might still have that 81,

The second 81 was a pos but it had a lot of heart and was a sound daily driver,

I know better than to say "never", but I don't have any current plans to sell anything.

My 81 was bought new in November 1981. I bought my 62 in February 1976, and I've owned my 71 El Camino since May 1971. I also have a 31 Ford woody wagon, that's been mine for about 30 years, but has been in my family for almost 50.

A lot of other cars, including other Corvettes, El Caminos, and Chevrolets, have come and gone, but those 4 seem to have become permanent fixtures in my life.

I have had my 69 for 25 years and have always used it off and on as a daily driver.
It will not be for sale as long as I am still alive.
Every time I drive it someone asks if it is for sale.
No one has ever made a reasonable offer yet, let alone an outrageous one.

The meter reader tried today.

Years ago I was out with it and a guy wouldn’t give up.
He went on and on “every things for sale, name your price” wouldn’t stop.
Couldn’t understand I bought it because I wanted it and am keeping it.
Finally shut him up by asking if he had a daughter and was she for sale.
Some things are really not for sale.

My dad after decades quit a Jacksonville box factory, he was a machinist who kept the machines running and the place going,
The boss says Charlie how do i keep you here, a raise?
My dad says nope im gone, boss says name your price,
My dad never a fellow to get mad he just is done blurts out several times what he thought the guy would pay,
Expecting the guy to tell him goodbye,
It backfired,
Boss says thats doable,
He gave my dad the fee, lol,
My dad worked there several more years, always joking about that.

In my kit car circles its common to be asked if its for sale and even highball offers that normally dont come through,

I wonder what would happen if one of you cats with a super pristine car replied very smoothly when asked how much, a million cash will do it.....
