Finishing your project when the chips are down
We already have a great Sticky about selecting the right car. We also have plenty of great, detailed threads on building/restoring/modifying our project cars.
How about a thread on "Completing Your Project When the Chips are Down".
I know for sure you Members have some serious suggestions that will help others reach their Goal.......after all.....look at how many times you have bailed me out!
What cha' got? (1,000 words or less....Preferably 20 words or less)
)

hey tony. been a while. most unfinished projects are caused by the opposite of your issues. a noob buys a vette to restore. he doesn't have a clue what he is in for or what he is doing. tears the body off the frame and... 2 years later wife and neighbors are unhappy about the rusty frame sitting in the driveway. they are all over craigslist for 3500 bucks. of course they are all 74 and up and not worth even that much. It isn't the scope of the project getting you down. in fact, I think that 68 is doing it's best to drag you back up. keep a chair in the garage. you don't wanna work on it today, just go visit with it for a while.

"Life" will happen....sometimes harshly. Put your project on the "back burner" until you are clear-minded, again.

Focus on one small bit at a time. IF you try to look a the whole project, you get totally overwhelmed and tend to drift away from it. IF you set up a list of small projects that lead to a big project, when the big project is done it seemed easy.

Make a to do list at the beginning of the week.
Accomplish at least 5 items per week no matter how small..
Don't let the project die
Understand your limitations .. let experts accomplish what you can't
Keep a log to monitor your progress..
Maintain your priorities .. God. Family and Friends

One thing that often helped motivate me to work on my car was looking at the newly recovered silver velour seats I have in the basement. Just thinking about how nice they were and how nice the car is going to be when I'm done made me want to get at it.

If you have the funds order your needed parts ahead of time....it's no fun waiting for backorders when you are ready to accomplish a task.

Remember that the best view is the one over the hood. The car belongs on the road. Keep it there, or get it there, and enjoy the journey as much as you can!

ONE...... Positive language &/or thoughts. It`s not "If I finish that fender..." It`s "WHEN I finish that fender..." Never look at what`s NOT done yet, look at what`s already done. Think positive! The glass is half full, not half empty!
TWO...... Document and review! Be sure to take plenty of pictures. When you get stalled, go back and review where you started, and follow up to where you are now. This helps you realize ALL the work you`ve done so far, and how far you`ve come with the project! This helps inspire more work.... "Now when I get that fender finished, the rear end will be complete!"
THREE...... Sideline projects. It`s always good to have small, simple, "sideline" projects to busy yourself when you run out of steam on your car. For me, I do artwork, painting, sculpting, etc. Keeps me busy while waiting for money or parts to work on the car!

Try to spend a minimum of one hour a day on the project, even if it is just organizing your work space.
Create a realistic list, very satisfying to cross items off the list-confidence builder.
Honesty..in your abilities/knowledge/tools/equipment/checkbook/space and time table.
Select the right car..a lot easier to stay motivated on a car you love vs one you settled for.
Go to car shows, swap meets, club meetings. etc.
Recognize when/if you are over your head, and ask for help.

Don’t start if you can’t finish. Too many enablers that tell noobs to “buy that rusty POS.” The noob ignores the honest evaluations and hears only the enablers that say “go for it!”
That’s how cars end up as parts cars with tons of time and money spent and pennies on the dollar at the end of the day.

It great some positive minded dreamer at least tried,
Look at all the jewels on this very forum built from cars the curmudgeons said to run from....
I know, tell everyone the only c3 they should buy is a megadollar numbers matching museum piece they never really drive.
