I'm trying to dismantle the seats I bought so I can combine them to fit as checked baggage on my flight back. One seat came apart fine, but the other seat the screws on the arms seem seized in place. Could someone advise where I could buy an impact driver (I'm not sure what you call it)........... but you hit it with a hammer and it provides turning torque to the screw while the hammer blow drives it down onto the screw? I remember my Dad had one when I was a kid. Harbor Freight?
I'm worried that just trying to use a screwdriver bit in a socket I'll just end up stripping the head and then have to drill the screw head off. I'm assuming the screws are available aftermarket?
Thanks in advance.

I picked up an impact screwdriver from Harbor Freight yesterday but could not get the screws to budge on the seat. I’ve been trying to soak them with PB Blaster so we’ll see what happens. If they don’t move by later today, I’ll drill out the heads on the screws and remove them when I strip the seats for reupholstery.

On another note, is it possible to cut the hole in a door panel for the window crank on a PW door panel? I’m wondering if there is a depression molded into the door panel at the window crank? I’ve found a couple pairs of used door panels, but both sets are for PW cars.

I can’t say I enjoyed drilling out the pivot screws, but they’re done, and I can now shrink wrap the backs together and the bottoms together and they’ll fit as checked luggage. Will start soaking the siezed screw remnants when I get back home. Hopefully with some penetrant, time and heat, I can salvage the bosses.

You should just carry the seat on the plane with you. "I don't need to buy a ticket. I got my own seat!"

Everyone loves photos........ so here you go. My friend, the body guy who’s now got the car (and has convinced me to paint the car back to Brands Hatch Green while he has the car) sent me some more photos of the car yesterday in his shop. I’m looking forward to finally seeing it in person.

Hi AlT
"On another note, is it possible to cut the hole in a door panel for the window crank on a PW door panel?"
Yes, all the original and reproduction door panels start out WITHOUT the hole. They're cut to allow the installation of the winder.
Regards,
Alan
Note the 3 'tabs' on the hole… they're there to accept the 3 prongs on the winder handle escutcheon… so it doesn't turn with the handle.

Looking at the historical documentation from GM, it doesn't list a radio. Was a radio standard and the radio/stereo would only be identified if an optional stereo had been added?
Also, as I mentioned, the car is going to be getting painted back to Brands Hatch Green. The documentation doesn't list the luggage rack. Was that standard equipment or would it have listed it if it had come on the car originally. If it wasn't originally on the car, I'd love to lose it during the repaint.
Thanks in advance.

I believe the radio option should have been listed if it was selected, but I could be wrong on that one. As for the luggage rack, that was a dealer installed option. It would not appear on your build sheet.

Hi,
No radio was standard.
There were 2 available as options:
U69 Am/Fm
and
U79 Am/Fm Stereo
Regards,
Alan
The mount for the fixed length antenna appears to be in the location the antennas were originally installed on cars with radios and the configuration of the base appears to be typical.

I’ve never seen a 1971 Phoenix before.
Here’s a 1977:
