The New 2017 Coker Radial Firestone RWL Wide Oval Tires

My C3 (72') just arrived to her new home this week and has BF Goodrich P245/60R15's. While I know that Wilson put new shocks and poly bushings on during the frame off, which he explained to me would give a stiffer ride, it is by no means jacked up or lifted in appearance. While this car is new to it does have about 1000 miles on these tires since the restoration was completed and from what I have seen so far there is no evidence of rubbing and it has a great looking stance. So, would 245's be equivalent to an IR-60? or IR-70? Anybody running those?

Hi S3,
I believe these are the larger 60 series equivalents:
H60-15 27.1" tall
J60-15 27.4" tall
L60-15 27.9" tall
L60 tires are REALLY big looking tires.
Because they show so much sidewall some folks feel they only look good trucks.
Regards,
Alan

Thank you again Alan. Maybe my eye is just not well trained yet, but I really don't see much difference in all these tire sizes. Here are some pix of the P245/60R15's. They don't rub, so I'm happy with them so far.

Hi S3,
Your new car looks terrific!
You must be very pleased!
Has it arrived yet?
For me the easiest way to try to determine what the tire size on a car might be is by either looking at how the tire fills the wheel well… (how tall is it), or by looking at how much 'sidewall' the tire shows compared to the original F70 tire…. (which showed a LOT of sidewall).
The 245-60-15 is a much 'fatter' tire than the original F70 tire used on 68-72 cars, but is about 1/2" 'shorter'. So from the side, it doesn't quite fill the wheel opening like the F70 did.
Regards,
Alan

Hello Alan,do you think the new F70 are wide enough to look right.
Iam thinking about it . The Firestone’s I have were made in 03.
And they are 255/60 /15 maybe a little to low for my liking
Thanks for being here and for all your help .

Hi JB,
My understanding is that the GR70 tire is equal/close in dimension to the 225-70-15 tire.
The 225-70-15 tire has been used by more than a few folks on 68-72 cars that are looking for a slightly taller/fatter tire than the original F70-15 (215-70-15) tire.
I believe they RARELY cause any problems on a car that hasn't had it's suspension or ride height changed.
Regards,
Alan

Hi JB,
The tire info indicates the 255-60-15 tire is about 3/8" shorter than a 225-70-15 tire.
Is the ride height dimensions on your car making you think you need a taller tire?
Regards,
Alan

Hi JB,
Again, what size tires on on the car now?
If we're talking about the 'P' and 'R' dimensions on the Ride Height Chart in the AIM, at 26" the car is already low?
If that's in fact where it is, then for me all bets are off as to what size tires will rub and which won't.
Regards,
Alan

Hi jb,
I can understand with the car at 27" ride height on 255-60 tires that you're having some tire rub.
I'd THINK you're looking for a tire that's the same height but narrower in profile, so the new GR70 could well be a good choice.
Have you compared the section dimension of the 255-60 and the new GR70?
Regards,
Alan
Some people would give their left nut to have their car at 27" on 255-60s!

The GR70-15 Firestone super O RWL are still backordered. Anyone have any idea how long or when they will be available. Emailed Coker still waiting for a response.

How about a source for similarly sized red line tires? It's time to replace the Western Turbine Wheels and twenty-plus year old tires with a set of Cragars or Rally Wheels and red lines, I already bought the Cragars and looking for the Rally Wheels. I could use a bit some info on where to find the tires if anyone has a source for them.
Thank you—
