Default The New 2017 Coker Radial Firestone RWL Wide Oval Tires

Looking at purchasing the new Coker Firestone radial RWL Wide Oval tires in P225. Have you purchased them this year (new for 2017) and if so what are your opinions/impressions of this tire? Do they ride well, were they easily balanced, how many miles on the tires, are they what you expected? They look great but need hands on feedback.

So, are you going to run F70-15's...........? and would those work on a 72' ? just starting to look for new tires myself. I sure don't want to invest a grand (+) and then discover they rub whenever I turn or go over a speed bump.

Default P225

They dont show P225 on the drop down, only F70 and G70, thus my question.

F70 is what came from the factory on a 72. Me and many others have gone as wide as 255 or more without any issues so an F70 which is a 215 will never have a problem unless the springs are terribly worn out and sagging

Looking at conversion tables the G70 is equivalent to 225's right? The Coker drop down menu directs you to an F70 (at least it does for a 72' C3). I assume that in order to avoid fitment headaches tire manufacturers avoid recommending the wider or the widest possible sized tires because they may end up rubbing on some vehicles, especially those with weary suspensions.

Hi S3,
The modern equivalent of a period F70 tire is a 215-70 tire.
The G70 tire became standard for the 73 model year. The modern equivalent of the G70 tire is the 225-70 tire.
It is rare that a 225 tire causes problems even if the springs and shocks are original.
It MAY cause a problem on a car with modified suspension that has lowered the car's ride height.
Regards,
Alan

I have the F-70s radial RWL Wide Oval Firestones from Coker and love them. The look is period correct and the ride quality is incredible. I was on the waiting list when they were in development. 1971 LT-1.

Thanks LT3--that's the kind of information I'm after. Any particular reason you got the FR70 versus the GR70? Again thank you for your input.

Mine has 225 70 15 and they rub when backing up and turning hard. The corvette shop here says they rub because I have the wrong tire on it. It's supposed to be 215. So I put in 40 pounds of air so they don't rub.

I went with what is factory replacement for the model year. The tires fit the wheel openings as intended and the look is period correct. As good as they look...I was equally impressed with the ride quality. I also went with the $20 per free replacement warranty. It covers any damage to the tire.

Could you post some pics? I am trying to talk myself into them too.
The price is steep. A pic would help. Don’t they look to thin?
I have 14 yr old firestone 255/60/15 I think it may be time to
Change. Thanks

Thank you Alan. Just the info I needed to make sure I am not making (another) poor long term investment......

These tires were picked at SEMA as one of the best new products of the year and they were backordered 4 weeks because of the demand--yet there is only 1 or 2 people rating this product. Maybe all the buyers own Buick's or Dodge's or Ford's??

Also waited for almost a year for the G70s. They said if I ordered them back in January I would get them in the spring. Lucky thing I didn't order, I have been constantly checking availability with them and now they say Winter 17'. But recently I've changed my mind in favor of the FR70s which seem to be readily available, just haven't had time to order yet. I think they look great on corvettes
