Pass, period. If the steering was ok they'd have spent $10 on a belt? (reservoircap too)
They picked it up degreased the motor looks like not much else lol.
Replaced rear bumper may or may not be a big deal;shes got her share of rust, too.
cant expect a lot for 5k but theres plenty out there for a few k more that dont need everything. Looks like its all there but how much will it really need just to be safe and reliable?
edit: do those fan blades look normal in shape with that cutout, curious

Hi av,
At first glance the car looks ok.
But the more I look the longer the list of things that need to be done becomes.
The FIRST thing to check on 68+ Corvettes is for rust in the windshield frame, hinge and lock pillars, rocker channels, and frame.
Have you done that?
Do you know how to do that?
How does the car run and drive?
I think $5500.00 may be a good deal for the seller…. but not for you.
Regards,
Alan

I would not want it if it was given to me. The only reason I would take it would be to part it out....and that would be too much effort.

Really??? If it only needed a belt for the P/S to work, don't you think the dealer would have installed one ($15 and 1/2 hour of work) and then it would have had WORKING power steering????
Run, Forrest.....

I see lots of cl ads for cars i have interest im say things like "ac needs charge or top off"
I think to myself what a lame *** cheesedick whitewash and why not just say "ac doesnt work"
The reason is because almost everyone knows ac is a costly repair, if the coolant leaked out its got problems,
But saying it needs "just" top off makes it sound easy, simple,
If a fix was easy the seller would make it not excuses,
Now i admit i have not seen this that i remember an actual car dealer being so cheeseball as to not install a power steering belt,
The car cant even realistically be test driven,
Poor car, poor unsavvy dreamer who will pay over 5k for what could very well be a rusted out parts car worth perhaps 1k or even less,
Speculation and snide talk aside it would be cool for a vette savvy cat to pop there and inspect it and report back the findings....

Most of that car is still there, but it is definitely a project. Have you checked for rust?

Burning Brakes
Wow, you guys are brutal.
When I bought mine it looked the same and I paid about that (after conversion).
My seats were shot, my clock was dead (still is) my engine looked way worse than this one, my door covers were shot (still are), stereo was crap, speaker holes cut into the back wall, my air breather was a crappy chrome one, Wiper motor was dead, heater motor was dead, there was a lot of rust at the bottom of the a-pillar, drivers window did not go down all the way, brake caliper was leaking, car stunk like a barn inside, A/C was cut out, heater core was disconnected (still is).
I bought it 5 years ago and as of now I have 6k more into it.
I put in a blue tooth stereo, 9 speakers, 1200 watts in amps, steeroids, fierro seats, valve stem seals (almost done), rear main seal, tranny pan gasket, new 13" steering wheel, spreader bar, Tires and rims, etc.
I still have about 10K more I want to do it, but I don't care. I love my car and would not have changed my mind.
OP, find someone at a local corvette club and have them go with you to inspect the car.
As long as you are not buying this as a daily driver, anything can be fixed with time and money. Other than a bad bird cage, anything is fixable. Even that is fixable if you have the space and time. Ask my friend Dave the Phantom. He bought a 70 and completely tore it down. I think he has 2 years in it and it is almost on the road again and he is happy with that.
If you like the car, just find out how bad it is....these are all bad unless they are completely rebuilt and then it would not be 5500. Put this into perspective, a new car is a lot more money than you would be investing in this car. Finding a diamond in the rough is hard. The first one I looked at had body damage on EVERY panel.
Keep in mind a 74 is as high as I would go in years (flame on). It was the last year for fiber glass floor pans, no catalytic converters (can you say side pipes), 195 hp stock (may not sound like much but you will be amazed at the feeling).
NO one said you had to pay 5500 to a dealer. If you like it, offer him 3500 and walk away. go back a week later and see if he changed his mind. if you have to, offer 4000 and tell him you wont be back.
It's up to you what you want to do with a car like this. I play with mine, learn with mine and get lots of smiles with mine. My car will be "done" in 10 years, just in time for my retirement and I'm good with that. I will know every inch of that car when I am done. I will have learned how to do almost everything myself when I am done.
Hope I gave you a different perspective.
Ken
