Default KIDDE Recalling 40 Million Fire Extinguishers

Small vehicle and watercraft. Exactly the style we have in our cars.
Better check yours. I checked all of mine and found two. Entered the serial numbers and two new ones are on their way.

I do not see where to enter Serial Numbers? Do you have any other info? All I can find is various PDFs with information.

Call them. It took about 10 minutes. All of mine were on recall list. They will send out replacements.

Saw this on the news. Thanks for posting the link. I used to carry an extinguisher in the car that was a Kidde brand.

Thanks! One of my extinguishers is affected so I will get a new one. Not a bad deal considering it's 20 years old!

Below I attached the link for the USA where you fill out the information and you can read some info below the link:

https://inmarmarketaction.com/kidde/...a-e0071b6aa0d1

1. It's kind of misleading because even though there is a "Model" on the specific fire extinguisher what they wanted for "model" was "HOME 110" and the "1A10BC" which is listed as "Classification" on right side of label on mine (it is a selectable field so rather easy, but the ACTUAL model designator {see KFH/98T in picture below} on mine is NOT listed on their website form as a selectable option).
2. Also it wanted the serial number which is readily apparent.
3. Mine is from 2001 so it had no "date code" so I had to leave the date code blank.
4. Here is the page to go fill in to request:
https://inmarmarketaction.com/kidde/...a-e0071b6aa0d1

Yes, a lot of these smaller extinguishers DO NOT have a date code as described at the site. Does not matter, just enter the Model Number and Serial Number, leave the Date Code blank. It will accept that much info. I've found a total of three affected extinguishers among all of mine.
I posted this info on every automotive site where I'm a member and it's not surprising how many guys have units that qualify for replacement.
This recall covers units from 1973-2017. 44 years, that's a LOT of extinguishers!

Thank you. I probably would not have noticed this otherwise. 4/5 of mine were affected including the small one I just put in my 'vette.

I called just now on a Saturday morning and all they wanted was the model # and serial #. Didn't care about those date codes. They gave me a 'consignment #' and said 2-3 weeks to receive replacements. The lady I spoke to was very nice but seemed awfully green and uncertain. I'll believe it when I have them in my hands.

The serial # was easy enough to find. Each unit I have has multiple model #s and all they wanted was the first one, plus not all the date codes are 10 digit. Why this is the case when 4 of the units are virtually identical and all purchased within a few years of each other I can't imagine. What an administrative nightmare !!

Just received an email saying that my replacement is on back order. They did not give any indication as to how long it would take.

Got my replacement today. Took a little over a month for those who are waiting.

They sent a 6 lbs ABC extinguisher to replace my 3 lbs BC. New one seems to be better made (metal handle instead of plastic).

Kidde gets an A+ from me in how they handled the recall. Easy to file, no hassle and they sent a better product than the one they recalled.

They sent me 4 lb units to replace the 2.5 lb units that were recalled.

It is, just got my replacement on Friday. I just went to their website and entered model and serial number and it said the extinguisher was part of the recall.
