68 Leaky Carb
My 68 sits too long. Often 6 to 9 months due to job and weather. It’s a 327/350 with the stock quadrajet. Great carb but I seem to have to rebuild every 18 months. The seals dry out and predominantly the excellerator pump leaks. Anyone know of better gaskets etc....that might last a little longer? Thoughts?

For the accelerator pump I followed Lars suggestion and got the NAPA 2-4044 pump.
It is said the resist deterioration from the ethanol in our fuels.

The gaskets you get in these carb rebuild kits are junk...even in the 'good' kits. They used to be made with impregnated paper and would not leak. Not any more.
I have resorted to "rubbing-in" some Permatex Black RTV over & in the entire gasket surface (very light amount left on the surface) and allow it to dry completely. Three years or so and no wicking, oozing, or leaking from them. There might be a better substance to use...or maybe there are some REAL gaskets out there somewhere...but that's worked for me (even if it is a lot of trouble).

I would think permatex 2 would be better. Silicone is gasoline soluble.

Ultra Black Permatex RTV is made to use with petroleum based fluids. It is the only silicone sealant that I will use on gaskets that are in contact with oil/fuel.

i would think that there is a good change to block passages in a carburetor with any kind of RTV. Buy the good kits, my Quad on my GTO sits all winter with no gas once it evaporates and still works fine after the first start in the spring.
