Wiring Harness Question 1970 resto
Good evening, My mech asked me to order the 2 wiring harnesses for the front (which connects to what looks like under the brake cylinder). I guess one of them is the Engine Wiring Harness, and the other is the Front Light Wiring Harness. I took it upon myself to go ahead and order the Rear Wiring Harness as well. Well.... They both come in, along with a catalog. I look at the catalog and notice there is another one! A Dash Wiring Harness which looks a lot more involved and is double the price of the others. Where does this Dash Wiring Harness Plug into? I'm going to have to ask my mech if he needs this as well, since he needed there others. Do you think the Dash Wiring would take the place of any of the above listed or are they all completely different>

The dash harness is a different animal/more complex/more aggravating.
It is possible your dash harness is still in good shape unless the car was in a flood...no sense in buying one if it's not necessary.

Hi B,
The dash board harness has the the fuse panel as part of it. It mounts to the firewall. It's the most complex of the harnesses in the car…. thus it's price.
It also has a large electrical connector that branches off just a few inches from the fuse panel which the rear lighting harness plugs into.
Regards,
Alan
The car has 4 main harnesses:
Forward Lighting
Engine
Dash
Rear lighting
Depending on whether or not the car has options like a/c, power windows, transistor ignition, there maybe several small harnesses.
Sorry, DG posted while I was typing!

Dash harness is ,well under the dash , so it's away from the oil fumes and heat of the engine bay . Unless someone's been in there changing things (like radio , aftermarket gauges ,etc.) its usually in good condition . Dash harness has the fuse box in it ,which pokes through a hole in the firewall and your light harness plug into that from the front .
Then there's the vacuum hose system that winds through the dash wiring , that's integrated a couple of times into the wiring i.e.: headlight switch, wiper door opening system , heater control.
rear harness usually ends up dirty from the road grime kicked up under the back end , can give problems with dirty grounding back to chassis , corroded light bulb connections in the housings .

LOL sometimes I feel like such a pain for asking what seems to me like silly/dumb questions. Then I get such awesome responses, and remember why I joined this forum/community... Thanks again for all the insightful answers! I will take Doorgunners advice and leave well enough alone (since car wasn't in a flood ;-) and hope all is well with that main artery behind the dash unless I hear otherwise when I drop the other 3 off.

*** Thanks to Alan and Bazza too! The vacuum system is unfortunately hooked up to the manifold and almost all of the relays/"round circular looking things that should accept hoses but none are attached" are not attached. Thats another crazy question or 2 for a different day... Especially since you said that the wiring/electrical system is integrated.... great!

I had the dash out of my 69-- every time I moved the dash harness I could hear it crackle like of Rice Krispies. Wiring that crackles tells me the insulation is cracking. Ol' Red got a whole new set of wires-

Ok so my 65 vette was under water for 5 days. I don't want to fix anything. I think it would be easiest to completely remove everything and start over from scratch. Any pointers on finding harnesses and wiring schematics?
