Default Love the options of a removeable Hardtop.

[/QUOTE]

Personally like the lines of the Hardtop over the coupe. Just my taste!

I don't know, guys. Convertible up, down or hard top on. All C3's with that option look fantastic in any configuration. Personally, I like my car with the top down. In the summer months it's never up since I don't take it out in the rain.

The only time the HT was on it was when it was delivered to me. I thought about putting the HT on while in storage for the winter but I wouldn't sleep well at nite knowing the soft top in the compartment being all scrunched up and didn't like that idea so the HT is in the basement

What's the difference? You say the soft top is never put up in the summer. It's the same thing. FYI Last winter I left my soft top in while running my HT for the winter. It was perfect when I put it up for the first time in the spring (Al Knoch cloth top). It had a few creases by bow #1 on both sides but 30 minutes in the sun and they were gone. In the summer I only put the soft top up if it's raining. I leave it folded even when the car is in my garage. I do have and recommend the soft top rear window pillow. It keeps it from creasing. This year I decided to remove the soft top. I don't know why. Maybe to spend some time in the garage away for the wife.
In case your're wondering I drive my car in anything but snow and ice and it's my daily driver.

I agree, the convertible gives you three distinct looks. To me the HT look is the best but I love all three options.

Like others here, I too love the look of the hardtop on the C3,

...unfortunately it seems the only time it makes it back on the car is whenever I move.

This was taken shortly after returning from an overseas tour and I hadn't yet found a space to store it safely...

I don't know, perhaps I'm being too protective however I don't like the idea of the back window being all crumpled up in the compartment in a non heated garage during Colorado winters.

Thats where the window pillow comes into play.

For Tops With Soft Windows Only
Protection For Convertible Top Rear Windows
Keep your convertible's rear window from being scratched or creased while stored. Simply place the soft, foam-filled pillow on the fold of the rear window as the top is lowered. Fits all convertibles with soft window only.

yes, the wheels are 8x15, and the front tires are 245-60
and the rear is 255-60, I think the backset is 3 3/4 and I installed
a 1/4 spacer front and back

I admit the hardtop does look good, but the "in the wind" feeling is hard to beat.
Same here. In the 30 years of ownership for my '69, it was only on twice, once when I picked the car up, and then again when I moved.

Wound up selling it on eBay, and it took the seller several years to eventually pick it up, I guess he had second thoughts as well.

in 38years of ownership, the hardtop has never been on the car once. I guess that is one of the advantages of living in the south.

The look great on without a doubt.

Its a hell of a blind spot tho.. I love the way the car looks, just hard to see whose next to you. Also example on mine it doesnt have a passenger mirror making it that much more of an issue.. Tho a quick mirror will fix that

Anyone have a solution for the shrinking padding inside?

The hard top completes the look on my car. I wouldn't have it any other way. Not to mention there's a roll cage where the soft top was.

I just bought my "69 roadster and set out to restore the black vinyl hardtop. I too look forward to putting it on the car to get a different vibe. That said, I removed the three panel headliners, cleaned it up, and now have difficulty getting the headliner panels to re-engage in the plastic velcro pieces. Prior to taking them out, it fit fine, but I had to remove the panels to restore the rest of the hardtop. Anyone have this issue and advice on how to get the original headliners to hold again?

You have to smack the **** out of them to get them to stick. Hopefully your headliner is not as warped as mine in some places.

Still working on getting my hardtop freshened up, and looking forward to putting it on my '69 roadster. I have heard the hard top can scratch the paint - can anyone weigh in on this? I see some in this thread reference using paint protection film and some use plastic protector strips. Any input appreciated.

I tried the protective film on my 65 years ago. Perhaps it would have been worse without it, but it didn't prevent it from leaving an outline of where the top rested on the rear deck.

I agree with the rest of the gang, the c3's look fantastic with the top on.
My 68.

I have a 69 roadster. What is the proper way to secure the hardtop bolts from under the deck lid? Checked all the manuals, can't find a reference - I assume washers and nuts, but don't want to assume.
