You are correct. I think what I was trying to say is that if it is stainless, it's a '78. All '79 (and newer) are black.

I have also found with this exercise that searching google images for 19xx corvette and looking for differences isn't necessarily accurate.

Also, over the years, things get changed out on cars for various reasons.

I just wanted some kind of guide that if I were to walk by a c3 in a parking lot or see one at a gas station I could make a fairly accurate guess on what year it is.

'69 had map pockets on the passenger side of the dash, '68 had none. '68 sb was 327, '69 350. First year for the L46 350/350.

Didn't 68s have the key on the dash? 69 is on the steering column.
