Thanks so much

If you go back to post #79 there are pictures of what we did.
We sandblasted it before we took it apart.
Then it was hot tanked.
Then reassembled
Finally
Richard painted it.

The frame and components look terrific ! It's a shame that they'll be covered up when your done.

Aaron....

Maybe smart
That way you don't have to worry about messing up fresh paint

I kept going back and forth about when to paint the body
If I paint the body on the dolly, there will be no overspray on the chassis but the thought of trying to put a freshly painted body on the chassis is a little too unnerving given my body moving set up

We have decided to put the body on now and then paint it on the frame.

[QUOTE=Alan 71;1596482924]Hi Glenn,
I saw your photos of the results of the work done on the half shafts.....
I've been playing around with the pair from my car trying to remove the pitted surface on the tubes and duplicate the weld 'heat zone'.
They're getting closer to what I'd like the appearance to be.
Regards,
Alan

Shockingly amazing!!!!

I have never seen such a thing.

Well done.

That's what I'm doing. The painter, who's restored dozens of Corvettes, highly recommended wrapping the restored chassis in aluminum foil before the body drop. It took a few hours and a couple of Costco size rolls, but it'll hopefully be effective in keeping off the over spray and bondo dust.

Plenty. If there's something in particular you'd like to see, I'd be happy to post it. Can't compete with Alan's impeccable work though.

You should know that I'm not restoring the car to NCRS standards. It belonged to a long time friend who passed away in 2015 and I'm restoring it for his wife in the manner that we think he would have done.

That's a good point, perhaps i've inadvertently been smart by default

I knew if I stripped the car for paint and stripped the frame too the car would never get back together again, also the amount of space needed would be epic. So I decided to do the paint and do the frame in the future...i.e put it off. But now i'm thinking of doing it this winter and i've really got to think hard and be prepared, doesn't help that i'm building a house too.

I think you're best off painting it on the frame, too difficult otherwise and it'll get knocked putting it back together.

Glen,
Your photos are fantastic and your build is inspiring.

I like your attitude of making a hot rod and doing it your way. The silver and black chassis really pops.

I am sure I am going to have a ton of questions for you as you are leading the way. The trailing arm photos give me some worry for what I may have looming but yours came out so nice so maybe there is hope.

Thanks again for sharing your project. I look forward to seeing more!

It is fun having someone close by doing the same thing
We will have to get together!

It is amazing what sandblasting can do. LOL
