Shiny on top........spotless on the bottom......excellent!.

(I had to re-dye a door panel 3 times to get an even color)

Hi Glenn,
"What a mess."

57 years ago I learned my first lesson about working on cars.

I was painting a valve cover from my 55 Chevy in the garage.
I finished it and was carrying it to put it down on the picnic table in the back yard. (It would dry faster in the sun.)
I dropped it.
It fell in the grass.
It fell top side down.

Things have gone somewhat better and somewhat worse at various times during the ensuing years.
Regards,
Alan

Richard sprayed the engine bay over the weekend. It came out great.
We shot it with a semi gloss. It is shinier that stock but not as shiny as in the pictures

I reinstalled the radiator support and Richard started spraying on a guide coat to prepare for wet sanding

Then Richard starts wet sanding. Water is dribbled out of the squirt bottle he is holding as he sands starting with 1000 grit, then 2000 grit
and then finally 2500. Then he will buff it.

Richard said the 1000 grit takes out the orange peel, then the 2000 and 2500 take out
the scratches from the 1000 grit.

Richard continues to work his magic. Today he continued wet sanding and then he started buffing. He started with a wool pad and compound, then to the yellow pad and compound and finally the green pad with polish

The results are amazing

Part of the fun was pulling off the masking foil and paper.
It worked better than I had hoped

One more parting look

Richard now moves to the back half of the car tomorrow

Hi Glenn,
I realize you mentioned it earlier but......
the amount of gloss on on the compartment blackout would be making me nervous.

Alan

In bright lights my camera makes satin black look like semi-gloss.

That white paint practically sparkles

Thanks

We will see what the shiny engine bay looks like when it gets out in the wild.

Which is getting closer.

Today Richard covered the front and went after the back.
When I got there he was done with the 1000, 2000 and 2500 wet sanding and was going after the wood pad compounding.

Tonight I continued sorting and organizing parts in the garage to make room of it coming home

Looks amazing!
Dumb question.....when you start putting things back together, do you use the old wiring harness, or do you purchase a new aftermarket harness?
Also how do you know what plugs into what? Including the vacuum stuff?
