ZRX, Thanks' for sharing the story from the past owner. Always enjoy those. Lots of great car shows around this summer. Maybe you can bring the car up to Downers Grove some Friday night. Always a nice turn out of cars.

I'm glad to see the original radio came along with it!
Thanks, Alan. Although I've only been seriously looking since November, I've been looking literally EVERY single day since November. Including Christmas. Plus, I had 2 weeks off work in December/January for vacation. Guess what I was doing--yeah--looking for Corvettes. The search itself and the education in the process has been a blast.

I was happy that it came with the original radio as well, as I know those things sweeten the deal and add to the value of the car. And as any of you who has looked for these cars (used) knows, you can't always believe what the seller (or used car dealer) has told you. That's one of the reasons I feel so good about this car. The 3 sellers are connected to each other. All still alive (two in their 80s and one in his 70s). All still in contact with each other. All can verify (or have the opportunity to contest) what the other is saying about the car. Knowing that is huge for me. For all the cars I called on, emailed on or texted about (and it was a LOT), this was the first where there was any opportunity for me to speak with an original owner.

Thanks very much. I sure do appreciate it. I think the color combo is pretty cool. The hardtop color does make it pretty unique, considering that a hardtop that had vinyl on it only came from the factory in black, from what I understand.

Eljay,

I would have preferred a 4-spd, but wasn't opposed to an auto. The front turn signal lenses are not original? I'll have to look into why. Thanks!

Hi ZRX,
Eljay's post made me take another look at the front grills.
Besides the difference in the 'tint' of the lenses that he saw, I noticed that they ARE 70 grills.
The 70 grills (with mounting studs rather than visible screws along the bottom chrome plated leg of the grill) are one year only, easy to break, and thus valuable in their own right.
Very nice that the car has a pair!
Regards,
Alan

Default The Current Color

I do have to say that I love the current color of Laguna Gray. Someone I've know for about 25 years just texted me this: "The Gray makes the Vette look like a Mako Shark." He's right! Another hash mark in the Keep It Gray column. Whether it returns to Bridgehampton Blue someday or remains Laguna Gray--I'll love the color either way.

Congratulations on your recent purchase. It is a great looking C3. I really enjoyed the story concerning the car and the pictures you attached. I have a 69 coupe that I have owned since 1970 and still love the car.

Thank you! The fact that you have had that car for so long really says a lot! It's that emotion again--like being married... only for me, I think this will last longer...

Default Update

Well, I finally was able to connect with the second owner on the phone. He confirmed what I was sure was the case: the car was never in an accident, and very little on the car is not original. Some disappointing news though... When I asked about the window sticker, he said he didn't have it. He couldn't remember getting the promo model from the original owner either. On the other hand, he did say he would mail me some pictures of the car from when he had it, so I'm looking forward to getting those.
