i have welded up, or had the pin welded by buddys several times! the egg shaped rod, i mark the original position of the hole. weld it shut and drill a new hole the same dia. as a hurst bronze shifter bushing. and this works perfect forever. a little grease goes along way on a bronze hurst bushing. plus you end up with the proper clip to retain the rod. i would also find a thin machined wave washer to put between the clip and rod. JMHO... good luck troy

Default Update from OP

Since this thread was dug up, and I'm way past the point of putting a new pin in, I'll show you the repair I did by welding new material in and reshaping. It's a nice tight fit now.
