Should look like this. .:

I had one of the last 78 SA's built. Ordered it in The Netherlands through the military. Still have the order form from the GM dealer in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Wish I could find the current owner to give it to him.
Mine had a black leather int. with wind up windows! Don't know why I didn't order power windows.
I sold it to a chiropractor in Jersey City in 1984.

I picked it up in late June from Friendly Chevrolet. Since I hadn't ordered it from them, they treated me like dirt. Basically said "here's the keys, it has a quarter of a tank of gas."
Chevy didn't like Corvettes around their dealerships unless they were for sale. Too bad.

My 78 was ordered by an army service member when he was in Germany. His local dealer wanted to a $5k surcharge...he said "forget that!"

So the order was from an Opel dealer in Germany but then delivered back to the dealer in Silver Springs (I think) in MD.

My SA has the Mahagony interior...I really like it. It now has 35k miles and is an NCRS 5-Star Bowtie (survivor). Still all original.

Yea, they asked me where I wanted it delivered. I had my choice of any dealer.
Glad I didn't run in to that.

I judged a 1978 Pace Car with 4 miles on it many years ago at Bowling Green.

I was judging Mechanical 1 (engine).

That is the only car that I ever judged and made absolutely no deductions (out of all of the cars that had judged over the years). Mechanical 1 score was zero deductions.

I know some other areas had minor deductions (exterior, interior, chassis), but the deductions across the board were very minor.

Easy top flight for that car.

Should double check the date on the spare. My May 15th trim tag date has a spare dated the 5th week of 1978. About 3 1/2 months earlier.

Getting ready for Bloomington
Doing ops checks etc....
I made a banner decal for the windshield
"the LAST 1978 Corvette made"
"547 original miles"
Think that will be looked down on?
Frowned on?
Lose points?
I think its neat but thoughts ?

I don't think most people will be focusing on that (as much as the car itself). It's a rolling piece of history. Good luck and post pics of the '78 when you can. Thanks for sharing the the assembly line photos. I love seeing the old St. Louis plant pics.

The judges may politely ask you to remove the banner along with the air cleaner and ignition shielding.

Of more interest to a judge is what is significant about this last built unit that differentiates from the other 46,000 78s built?
