Default 3 piece rear louvers? Should I??

I've been wanting some rear louvers for my 81. I drive it on the daily and I'm in the south. Does anyone out there have them on their cars and do they like them?

The reason I mention the 3 piece is because Ecklers has them on sale and I've been unable to fine the one piece of the last 2 years.

Louvers on the 80-82s were cool looking back in the 1980s. Still are. But of all the ones ive seen, Old school discontinued and currently produced. The best looking ones were the ones sold under the Cragar name. If I had a fast back i would deffinitely put one on. But I would also wait till an old used Cragar comes up for sale which they do pop up from time to time.

I wanted a set for mine and was very stubborn about not wanting the older 3 piece or a new 1 piece plastic and was set on the Cragars. I kept a search running on eBay for a LONG time before I found mine. I lucked up on a set of GM licensed NOS never installed still in the box just like the Cragars from eBay. I kept searches on SearchTempest for Craigslist running as well. They cost less than the price of the new plastic set. A friend found a set for his at Corvettes of Carlisle. You may have to be VERY patient. I waited longer to find my ttop carrier. I think I have had my set for 2 years and the set on eBay now was for sale on there back then as well. Good luck!

Yeah, the cars "are" 80s its in their soul and to me a 78 to 82 isnt complete without the cragar style louvers, the 3 piece look like an afterthought the cragars look like what gm would have done had they sold a factory louver,

Hard to find but worth it,

PS,
The fat one piece imho look gross, dont fall for them...

Do they have a hinge so you can lift it and clean the glass?

I had the 3 piece aluminum on my ‘80 back in the old days. I didn’t care for them and took them off, and couldn’t sell them when I did. They might still be leaning up against a barrel at the McLean County Fairgrounds.

If I were considering louvers on a 79-82 I’d get the one piece Cragar style, but they are hard to find.

I wonder why 1978 is not on the application list for those.

My 82 must have had the louvers at one time, as there is a rubbed spot near the driver side top of the rear window. Not there when I bought it 21 years ago. Just had the rear window tinted dark years ago with reflective, metal infused tinting and looks and works well. I am sure much cheaper than the louvers. Consider it.

I can tell where my 79 had louvers too. You can see the marks on the glass. They were long gone when I got it 12 years ago. I think I'd dark tint the back window before I'd put louvers on it, but this isn't my car we're talking about here. OP, you should do what makes you happy, and not listen to people like me!

Louvers will scratch the glass where they are supported mid span. Not a problem until the day you get rid of the louvers and have to live with the small scratch marks. You have been warned.
