Originally they did, are there any '68's out there now that have been changed? Almost certainly, however, if you see one that doesn't, then you can be assured that it has been modified. At some point my '68 didn't have push button door locks (another '68 specific for C3's). Someone decided they didn't like them so the put later doors on it. The gentleman I bought it from found correct '68 doors and returned it to the correct form. These cars have been out there for years and many, many changes have been made to a lot of them. Which is why we need books and experts like some of the folks on this site.

I have a 68 as well, but it looks like mine was rear ended and the entire rear end from the doors back is from a 70-73 cause I have the fender lips to prevent rock chips, back up lights inside the inner tail lights, and square exhaust.
My guess is that it was cheaper to take the rear end from a wrecked 70-73 than to get correct fiberglass.

My 68 convert came with the back up lights fiberglassed over by the PO. Sockets and wiring still in place. I cut out the holes and made them like they were supposed to be for 68 cars.

Shame on GM for cheapening a safety item on the 69-82 Corvettes! When I stop my 68 coupe, I want four tail lights lit. I can't believe that they spent all that money to design the special 68 exhaust panel with special extra fiberglass reinforcements to hold the modified Oldsmobile Cutlass back up lights and then drop all of that on the next years model. All in the name of saving money for the bean counters. Lou.

There is one big difference between the two. The Cutlass lights only have one wire and companies were selling them to us Corvette owners in the recent past. The metal cars do not need a ground wire. I just saw a newsletter from Corvette Central saying that they are reproducing the 68 Corvette back-up light with the correct special plug and two wires. Lou.
