Default 255/55/17

Anyone running 255/55/17 or see any issue with clearance?

The 255/55-17 is 28" tall so it could pose some clearance issues in the front on the leading edge of the fender and on the rear corner of the fender at the rocker molding. Look at a '78 Pace Car and see where the front fenders were "trimmed" to clear at the time the new 255/60-15s which are 27" tall.

I'm running 235/55/17 and the back is fine but the LH front rubbed slightly on the edge of the fender at the front of the wheel. I put this down to the PO not fitting the replacement front clip perfectly evenly. I wasn't prepared to cut into the fenders so changed the front tires to 215/55/17. From memory a 235/55/17 is the same dia as the original "70 series 15" tire but they were more rounded on the edge. I felt the 55 series tire filled the wheel arch better than the more often chosen 45 series 17" tire.

I also use 235/55R17 on my '75 roadster, no problems with rubbing and they fill the wheel wells perfectly.

why are you looking at a 55 series tire verus a 50 series which would be correct when looking at 255mm wide tires in 17".

Thanks for all the input. To be completely honest made a mistake buying some tires. Thought they were 50 series but are 55's.

I really like the look I have now with 225/55 and 255/50s
Only negative is that it's hard to get the 255s here in Europe

Default Combo pics, did you mount the 255/55/17's? How do they look?

did you mount the 255/55/17's? How do they look and fit? I want a drag tire look but I need at least 17's to fit my brakes and backing plates.
