Help with valuation on car I'm looking at
I have a healthy corvette collection, C1, C2, and C7s.
I have had numerous C3s and very well versed on birdcage and rear kick up stuff etc.
I have located a car not advertised yet with following specs and photos.
72 blue on blue coupe., 90k Miles with clean frame and birdcage.
Painted incorrect ford blue.. (sacrilegious)
4speed, numbers match engine and tranny, gutless 200hp k in VIN.
Interior look clean minus incorrect stereo and seat belts.
Engine bay is clean minus incorrect valve covers and Goofy orange MC and vacuum resorvoir. Headlight vacuum works well but wiper door doesn't.
So here are the photos.. I'm thinking $12-$15k?

Hi K,
That looks like a pretty nice 72 car based on what can be seen in those photos.
Is the $12,000 to $15,000 what the owner is going to be asking, or is it what you're thinking of offering?
Regards,
Alan

Melting Slicks
I'd deduct ...correct seat belts, exhaust tips, and balance of ignition shielding @$400....from whatever number you start with.

I see 12-15k as low. I also would like to know, as stated above, is that what he is asking or what your offering? Id say 15-20k is what I would be asking for the car. 12k is what nice 74-82 Corvettes are selling for now a days.

I wish you luck!
Unless the dude is a complete sucker, ain't gonna happen.
The car looks pretty good, I'm trying to gauge how insulted the owner will act upon receipt of that low ball offer.

Actually, if it were an automatic you may not have been far off. Here's a ball park figure from a phone app assuming we're calling it a driver and not excellent.

me on cars so I won't be offending him. I am just doing due diligence before hand to find out what is a fair range from the C3 boys...once I read him and the car armed with your inputs I will will be in his ballpark.

you made a big leap reading that would be my offer. I'm looking for valuation input before I offer anything and after seeing it.

I like the car based on photos but having the wrong paint, lowest HP option, high mileage and missing about $1k in correct parts, I'm trying to make a case for it.
The numbers matching engine, tranny and nice looking paint make it attentive as a low risk car assuming inspection Sunday pans out.
He also mentioned perhaps entertaining a trade for my survivor untouched 33k 1981 Z28 auto/AC so I want to see how the trade would balance out.

Safety Car
a no rust flawless paint ( even tho wrong color ) good interior, good hoses, belts exhaust, rubber is pretty rare..
most of them will have an excuse..
I would pay an extra 4-5 K for that on top of the basic valuation of 12-15K. its a nice car, don't lose it over haggling plus or minus 2-3k.

Hi K,
As I said, the car looks interesting in the photos.
If you're interested in a more or less original 68-72 car you need to be aware that the paint (however NICE it may be) in a color OTHER than the original, affects the car's value.
AGAIN, this is true for someone who is INTERESTED in ORIGINALLY, not someone who doesn't really care about the paint as long as they like the color, and it's well done.
If you decide you want the car to be the correct color the car's value is decreased by what YOU think it costs to paint a 72... WELL.
What does the trim tag indicate the original color for this car is?
It's really not possible to give you a responsible figure for it's value based on the very limited information and photos.
Regards,
Alan

Hi K,
412 Blue Vinyl
979 Targa Blue
I think the color the car is now isn't too far off.
It's hard to tell how much (if any) of the center gauge bezel has been cut for the radio. Fortunately there's a reproduction bezel for 72 cars.
Regards,
Alan
ADDED:
I just realized... when you said FORD you may have just been describing the color.
I THOUGHT you were saying it had been PAINTED a Ford color.
There MAY be no issue with the paint!!!!
