C3 Gas Gauge Reads Full All The Time
So my gas gauge is broken or malfunctioning now. It reads FULL all the time and wont get lower as I burn fuel. The fuel gauge needle is all the way to the right in the full position. It actually is reading Fuller than Full if that makes sense. Its past the Full. If it were an Hour Hand on a clock it would read 3 O'clock. Any Ideas as to whats happened? and how to remedy this? I realize is not the biggest problem but is was nice when the fuel gauge was working.

Hi t,
You give no hint as to the year of your car so I'm guessing 79.
Here's the trouble shooting info from the Willcox site.
It addresses the problem when the needle moves all the way to the 3:00 location.
Regards,
Alan
"The most common problem diagnosed in a fuel gauge system is a pegged needle to the three o’clock position. When a gauge reads this there is usually an ohms signal problem either at the dash unit or the sending unit."

...one of the easiest things to fix on this "maybe" the ground wire where it attaches to the frame off of the sending unit. My '68 did this years ago and all it needed was the ground eyelet area cleaned & re-attached and that corrected the gauge. Could be your issue too.

Ground wire break or corrosion or break in fuel gauge signal line (most likely at rear of car).

I can't tell you about a '79, but it is under the fuel tank and coming from the fuel sending unit. The 1979 A.I.M. would have a detailed drawing of the wiring and how it is routed. Maybe some other poster (with a '79 AIM) can provide more specific info.
