Seat Upholstery Question
One of my upcoming projects is to reupholster the seats in my 73. I have purchased new vinyl seat covers and new seat foam. I met a fellow corvette enthusiast at a car show a few weeks ago who had just completed the seats in his 72 and they looked great. His advise was to use 1/2" dacron fabric on top of the new foam. He says it helps the seat covers slide over the new foam and helps prevent sags and wrinkles. Anyone else have experience using dacron fabric.

I do not use it an I really do not have a huge issues with the seat covers not wanting to cooperate and go over the foams.
I seem to get the cover to look rather nice without it. This photo is showing how the pleating lines in the comfortweave line up. And yes there are few wrinkles in the sides of the seat back.
THEN....they were worked out like you can see in the seat on the left.

Melting Slicks
When I do boat upholstery I usually spray a little adhesive on the foam, then I put a piece of thin mil plastic sheeting over the foam. Most of the stuff I do is larger than these seats, but it does help sliding things in place before you work out all the wrinkles. It might be overkill but every little bit helps.

TIME, PATIENCE and working the materials to what you want it to look like.
Sorry NO magic wand used to do this. Just good old hard work. And being smart enough to work on it when the material is warm and not during the dead cold of winter.

I use wire ties instead of hog rings. Lets you work with the material to get it wrinkle free. You have the ability to pull it a little at a time instead of pulling it tight and then trying to clamp the hog ring on.

follow his instructions precisely, he's only been doing this for 25 years

Yah, I read his instructions and looked at the video a gazillion times to prepare myself to do it. I did the same thing with my soft top and it came out pretty good for an amateur. I'm sure I could do it better the second time but that was a once in a lifetime thing (actually 2nd as I replaced my MGB's top years ago but that was easy compared to the Vette's top).
I have a feeling that this will be the only seats that I recover so I'm going to take my time and do it right the first time..........for an amateur.

He's the best.
People from all around the world use him.
It's just him and his wife.
It's the start of summer, if you ordered during the winter it would be much shorter.
He was sick for two weeks earlier in the year.
and my seats were full leather with logo, full custom. If you ordered vinyl with no logo he would probably have it out in a week, he doesn't keep leather pre-cut due to the amount of variables with it, that's his words when I talked to him.
Call and talk to him and you'll use him, he treats you the same if your a million dollar-an-hour lawyer, or just a construction worker.
Mainly the wait was due to what I wanted though.
