Yes, there should be a weight welded to the shaft.* But... as a precaution for us, when we remove the drive shaft from a car we also mark the location with an paint stick so that we know it's location in relation to the yoke.* Doing this assures us that we put it back in the way it came out.*

Hi Ernie-- I hope you're feeling better. I am going to rebuild the front end of my 1974 base coupe, L-48 small block, automatic with a/c. The A-arm bushings are shot, and it appears that the front end has sagged a bit, judging by the wheel opening heights. The front measures 27.5" and the rear 29.5" at the top of the arches. The frame rail under the rocker trim measures 7.25 at the front and 7.50 at the rear. I believe the car has the standard springs.
It'll be rebuilt with Poly bushings, and KYB Gas-adjust shocks all around. I have replaced the a/c compressor with the smaller Sanden-type, replaced the radiator with an aluminum unit, it has an aluminum intake, and aluminum heads are being considered for future upgrade. From what I've read, the stock springs were 293 lb rate, and the two replacements are 460/474 rate with either 936 or 1061 lb load rates (the 550 rate springs are too stiff for my old back).
With that weight off the front end, which springs could/should I use— the 936lb small block w/o A/C, or the 1061lb small block w/AC—Big block springs? I’m looking for a comfortable ride over a stiff performance ride, and the ride height to be somewhere around normal looking.

My first advice is if you are wanting a comfortable ride do not to use the poly bushings, use the stock. The only way I'll install poly bushings in my shop is if the customer signs off on it. If you are going to race the car, then yeah I'd do the poly. But for a daily smooth driver use the stock bushings.

Typically we install the stock front suspension kits that's made by Moog/Federal Mogul https://willcoxcorvette.com/catalogs...t_year=&q=su01 and the stock front shocks. (Nothing wrong with the KYB gas shocks either).

The spring is a bit confusing, have you added up the differences made by the items you've replaced. In other words, I'd start with the weight difference between the radiators, intake manifolds and the compressors and then I'd find the stock weight on the chart below.... I'd then subtract this difference to see where the car falls and then make my choice.

Default Seat Belt Retract Cover

Hello to all!

I am in the process of installing the proper three point seat belt system in my 75 coupe and I recently purchased a set of second hand under seat retract covers. My question, is this cover supposed to be exposed or covered by the carpet? Second question, would any one happen to have a picture of the drivers side where the seat belt comes out?

As always thank you for looking!
Best Regards
Darrin

Are they:
Tank to pump - 3/8 in
Return line - 1/4 in
Vapor line - 5/16 in

The seats have to come out, the carpet is trimmed around the pocket and yes, it's exposed but hidden by the seat. The belt comes out where the #1 is located in the picture below.

Here is another picture that shows aprox. how much carpet should be removed...

Quick follow up. It appears that there may have been two different types of covers produced, can you verify that? Too, do you guys carry the covers in stock?

I just looked at a 77, and the best I can tell the fuel is 3/8 and the vapor and return lines appear to be 1/4"*

Where did I read that the vapor line is 5/16?
unfortunately AIM doesn't say the sizes of lines.
I measured feed & return and they are 3/8 feed and 1/4 return.
Does it make any difference if the vapor line is 5/16?

I don't think it will hurt anything.... and you didn't tell me the year again.* So I had the 77 on the lift and put a micrometer to them...

I was always told, there is not stupid question, with that thought in mind, does any one know the best scanner to use to check communications between the modules?

Thanks a bunch, best website ever...
