Default How is this Possible? ‘71 Coupe for $14.5K

How is this possible? A ‘71 Coupe with 42,000 miles for $14,500 and it actually runs? I’ll fly to Canada and drive home to Texas for that low price!
A ‘71 without an engine would bring almost $10K here. How can this be??

Ps: Happy Fathers Day, gents!

EDIT...is this a case of USD versus Canadian money?

Trying a different lnk... this one looks like it’ll work for about an hour until the auction ends.

68-72 coupes (not roadsters) do sell at about $15ish. Some are better than others, some are more quipped than others. Lots have higher asking prices, but they do sell at that price point.

Thanks, I’m seeing quite the disparity in “asking price” and what the buyers are actually paying then here in Texas. Most of the low optioned Base Coupes are listed at or near $20k. Optioned big block 68-72’s start at $25-30K. I haven’t seen anything within 500 miles of me at $14.5K. At least nothing that actually will start and drive!

Yes big blocks are fetching quite higher amounts compared to small blocks. I paid 18k for mine almost 7 years ago! I did overpay though! :-)
You can still find some nice bargains if you are prepared to take time and look around.

Looks like it may be a base NOM? That would explain the lower price...

That photo may be 30 years old! There is SOMETHING wrong with that car. If it was put out on the street with a FOR SALE sign with $14,500 on it....and the car was in decent shape...it wouldn't need to be auctioned.

corvette owners always think there car is worth more then actually is....selling prices always bring the reality home. so unless its something special or everything is new that's a fair price

for some reason there are lots of good deals in Canada for classic cars

I bought this 72 for $13,300 3 years ago and drove it home....Small block, 4spd with A/C. It looks pretty much the same now and I have $17,500 in it. The little things can add up quick. I think Texas or south west Corvettes in general bring higher prices because they don't rust as fast out there.

Good luck with your hunt...
Brian

Seems to be sold. Maybe it really was that good of a deal.

Update: No Sale, Reserve not Met. Bidding ended at $12,000 in 38 bids. So far the car has not been relisted for sale/auction.

would have been a good buy if everything checks out even if it was a NOM motor.

That's pretty much what I see around here. There are cars priced much higher of course, but they seem to stay advertised for months at a time, or disappear in fall and show back up in adds the next spring.

if it has not sold by now for that price, then there is probably something wrong with it.
cross border risks and costs would keep me from buying it unless it was really worth my while.

know what you are doing if you try to bring a car back from canada..

I agree. The price alone seems “too good to be true”. The one mentioned above at the beginning of this thread is now listed at $13,500.

How is this a "Barn Find"??? If it's an original BB 4 speed, that is pretty cheap.
