That's correct. All 72's used the same mirror.

The mirror housing may be correct, but the mirror itself is most likely not. The original mirrors are dated with a month and year and mirror producer code etched in the top of the mirror.

If you are looking for an NCRS correct mirror it should have a date within 6 months of your build date.

Great info, thank you very much. Going for correct, that may as close as I can get. At least for a reasonable price.

I could not pull up the web page you listed. But, be aware that there are reproduction mirrors that look 'similar' to the original, but with a larger mirror/housing. If you are going for originality, make sure it is original-sized.

It’s an eBay listing for a nos gm part, just wanted confirmation it’s the the proper one, not for a different year or such

That is NOT the correct mirror for a 72 Corvette.

That mirror can be used on a 72, but it's only correct for a 75-79 Corvette. 68-74 Corvettes used what is commonly referred as the "small head" mirror, while 75-79's used the "large head" mirror. The description of that mirror is incorrect, that is a 75-79 large head mirror.

The small head mirror had a mirror head that was approximately 5 1/8" wide, and carried part number 3941860. The 75-79 large head mirror had a 6" wide mirror head, and was part number 345493. Both mirrors used the same 3 1/2" tall base.

The small head mirror was discontinued shortly after the large head mirror was introduced. By 78 or 79, the only outside mirror sold by Chevrolet for 68-79 Corvettes, was the part number 345493 large head mirror. As far as Chevrolet was concerned, the large head mirror was a perfectly acceptable service replacement part for the small head 68-74 mirror. They may have even considered it a safety upgrade, since the large head mirror slightly improved rearward visibility.

Exactly-

AND the mirror glass itself is different- the original is transparent as light will go through it. I was modding my small head mirrors for turn signals and found nobody makes the correct glass for it.
