LT-1 Radiator Question
I am restoring my 1972 M21 4 speed, LT-1, car (with no air conditioning). It was originally purchased at Beach City Chevrolet in Long Beach, California. It has 63,000 original miles and is Classic White with red interior. The car is very original, and every number I have checked on the car is original (engine block, heads, intake, transmission, rear end, wheels, window glass, etc.) I do however, have a couple of questions regarding the radiator. The car has an aluminum Harrison expansion tank 315541 with a 71 J date code, so the correct date would suggest it is original to the car. The radiator is copper brass and is likely a replacement, since I could not find any numbers on it. The core measures 26" wide by approx. 18" tall, and it has original style side tanks, and one side has a radiator cap on it. Looking at Paragon's catalogue, the core support they show as correct for a 1970-1972 LT-1 w/o M-22 transmission looks identical to mine. My radiator also looks exactly like the Paragon 8679 radiator which they show as correct for a 1970-1972 LT-1, except that my radiator is copper brass and the 8679 is aluminum.
Does anyone know if my car would have come with an Aluminum or Copper Brass radiator, and whether or not it is appropriate to have a separate Expansion Tank, and a Radiator with its own side expansion tank? If so, can anyone share with me the hose configuration, and what type of radiator cap should be on the radiator and the expansion tank. My expansion tank has one 3/4" hose connection on bottom, one 3/8" connection on upper side of tank, and one 3/8" connection on the filler neck. The tank has a chrome cap that has three fins running across it (not sure if that is original). Since my car is very original, I am trying to ensure the cooling system is original as well. Thanks for any advice!!!! Ken

Hello All
I`ve seen the suffix CGZ on the 1971 LT-1 Corvette but what does the engine Suffix CGY mean on a 1971 Corvette?
Thanks

i dont believe the expansion tank came on any LT-1's. That does not mean someone didnt think it was a good idea to add one at some point over the past 45 years. Here is what mine looked like. The date can be seen stamped just above the MK9 tag. The only LT-1's with an aluminum radiator were the ZR-1's to my understanding

LT-1 recent purchase
just recently purchased 1970 LT-1 convertible, Laguna Grey, black vinyl interior. Car has been in storage for 43 years. Last license plate was 1975.
It seems to be a no hit car. But the first 5 years must have been hard ones for the original engine is gone. And it has been a mouse condo. Will be looking for a 1970 LT-1 engine, which should be interesting, or dated coded parts to assemble one.
The beginning of a long journey, but enjoyable one I hope.
