Waving to a non-Corvette seems almost as wrong as saluting as a civilian. What do you all do when you get an unsolicited "hey, that's a cool car" wave?

I wave at other Jeep Renegades when I'm in mine (I've never gotten a wave back). I don't bother waving at actual Wranglers, though I have gotten a few waves. I got tons of waves the times I've rented a Wrangler, and returned them all.

Well here in Saskatchewan, we were known for just raising one finger of the steering wheel to passing vehicles regardless. Was a neighbourly thing to do. That still happens out in the rural parts of the province.

Worked on my 68 for over 20yrs, frame off restoration on body, modified engine 355. Just started going to shows and cruise-ins. I've noticed that people either really like Corvettes or really dislike them. I always acknowledge compliments, especially since I did all the work on it except for boring the block and shaving the heads. There must have been a hundred thousand 68s made because every one had one or their mom, dad, uncle, cousin, or now their Grandpa since it's 50 yrs. Last show I went to a little boy about 4 went nuts over it and wanted to "drive" it. I let his dad put him in the seat and he had a ball making engine noises and tire squealing noises. Maybe he'll grow up loving cars and working on them.

When I tell someone they have a nice car, I am polite and expect them to be. When someone tells me I have a nice car, I am polite because they were.

Where that usually ends is when I have to listen to the story of the one they have/had/are buying/sold/wrecked/raced/restored/whatever. More times than not is BS they are making up.

I think that most people, deep down, have an inherent desire to "connect", or find something in common, with others that they admire. Their subconscious mind thinks, "Wow, that guy is really cool, and I want to be like him"... which I believe to be the root cause for all those tales. It`s really a compliment, if you think about it. They are showing that they admire you, or what you have, and want you to know that they are as cool as you are because they share similar interests.

When I'm driving my 89 Bronco II, if I see another I always wave. 50-50 on the response. In my 95 Miata, the wave consists of a headlight wave. Older Miatas always return the wave.

He has a C2.... you have a common person's C3 and its not even running.
What did you expect?......lol

Just kidding.
He might have been having a REALLY bad day.
Found out he had cancer...
Wife is divorcing him and taking the C2....

Just never know.
Let it go.
And try not to be like him with someone else.

Peace

Been riding Harleys for 40+ years now. Used give the wave only to other Harley riders. Then came the point that Asian cruisers look so much like Harleys, I would wave 'cause I couldn't tell. Nowadays I wave to sport bikes, dp's, even scooters. The same in my old cars, I wave to everyone and most wave back. Funny, C6's and C7's rarely wave back when I'm in my C3, but guys in old Falcons do.

I wave at anybody that's paying attention now.................
An adolescent was walking with his friends awhile back and stared in amazement as our shiny red 81 went by.
So I waved when we passed into the parking lot.
When we came out of the supermarket I noticed they did too and herd him tell his friends it was a cool vette, and "the guy waved at me".
Seems to me it's a parade where ever it go's.
(tell your insurance co that if you can only drive it in parades).............

When I drive my 98 Wrangler I do get waves from other Wrangler drivers. My 99 BMW E36 with a LS swap not so much because it looks like any other E36. When I was driving my 71 C3 I got all kinds of waves.
I have to say that the complaints about the buy instead of built guys are a bit over done. A number of C5-C7 owners were more than nice when they were looking at my 71. Keep in mind some of the guys that buy built cars don't have the time or skills to build something nice. Kind of like did you roof your house or install your sewer system? I know I didn't. This spring I was asked to look at a rat rod a guy bought. The guy drives a very nice Ruff 911. He's a car guy but running his business takes all his time. My review of the rat rod did not make him happy. I don't proclaim to be a car expert but it was poorly built and unsafe and I told him so. He thought it looked cool but was shocked that when it wouldn't go down the road straight or stop well. Suspension that bottomed out against the frame rails. No shocks. Single pot brake master cylinder. He has asked a local builder to help make it road worthy but it will need major rework. I would sell it or scarp it and take the loss that was my advice to him. He thanked me for my unbiased opinion.

I'm not a "social butterfly", but I consider driving my '80 Vette an open invitation for conversation. It's the automotive equivalent of a friendly smile. Does that mean I suffer through some obvious BS stories and odd people on occasion, sure... but if I'm running to Home Depot for the third time, already pissed about the sprinkler repair project I'm working on, I'll just take the POS 12 year-old Ford truck that NO ONE (including me) gives a crap about...

...So a short while ago I .... decided my license plate HAS to include 1968 because the first question I ALWAYS get asked is "What year" followed by a REALLY bad guess.

I was thinkin' perhaps one of the Arizona Route 66 plates with "1968ON66.

"So is that a 1968 or a 1966" ... I can hear it now.

Go ahead, shoot me.

My plate says 76 VETE and I try and wave back at everyone that waves at me. I have noticed that many C6 and 7 owners are snobs.

Maybe you can define the term "checkbook *******?" Is it someone who has more money that you? Someone who pays people to work on their car? The reason I ask is because everyone I know who has a Corvette has to spend some money on it at one time or the other; maybe we are all ********?

I guess that make me a 1/2 an *******. I do all I can myself and pay for some stuff to be done. When I go from a 4 speed to a 5 speed I will have it done I will be the checkbook ******* If I don't have the room to do the job I will send it out.
God Bless all the guys that work hard make a lot of money and send it out to be done. It helps keep the hobby going. when I do the timing chain and valve springs and lifters my self I will be the none *******.

Im thinking 5 pages of trying to decide who’s an ******* based on things like how much work they do themselves is plenty.
