Default 78 Pace Car original tires

Hello all!

I recently purchased reproduction Goodyear Radial GT tires from Kelsey. (Awaiting their arrival) The tires I have on the Pace Car are original with 16,100 miles on them. I've been driving on them for the past 4 years when I purchased the Vette with 12,900 miles on them. My question is this, Is there a market for these original tires? and how much does a set of used tires go for? They are not dry rotten or show their age. They hold air, except for the change in seasons as with all tires. They loss some and gain some due to ambient temperature.

Thanks, Jim

Yep......locally only, no Highway. Thanks for your concern though!

The answer to your question is no. There is no market for your tires.

I don’t think the initial replier was concerned. Astonished rather. As am I.

If the tires are original, intact, and not visually damaged, YES there is a market for them. Many NCRS-judged cars are never driven...except to get in & out of their trailers. They relish finding actual factory production tires in good condition. It would be best....for you and for them....to remove them immediately and install safer tires on your car.

When old tires fail, they rarely just 'slowly lose air'; they BLOW OUT. If you are in motion, the car will pound the pavement with some portion of your fiberglass body. Not good.

Hope you find a willing buyer....QUICKLY.

Orig wheel-tire combo might be more valuable.

I agree. Someone might want them for judging purposes. Be patient since the potential market is likely to be small.

That's exactly what I'm looking for. Someone who owns a Trailer Queen. Tires are in really good shape. I had a tire shop look them over and the couldn't find any defects, I'm just looking to see if someone out there wanted them at a fair price. Never would I suggest to buy these and drive on them. They are 40 years old. I have only driven around my town occasionally. Just purchased new reproduction Pace Car tires, $$$$. Thanks for all your suggestions. I'll be patient and list them on ebay if they come off the rims with no problems.

Sure you could get 1-200 for the tires by themselves for the right guy. There are buyers like that-
They can rot from the inside out, it would be a shame to have one come apart and take out a 1/4 panel, had a few go out on me at 25mph.

Do think some tires from back then did last longer than todays overall. Tires on current drivers are 4 and 6 yrs old. One is garaged and has 50 miles on them wouldnt trust them a whole lot.

I have no idea what to ask for them. I trust someone out there would make me an offer with shipping. The tires are coming off my Vette this Wednesday with new Kelsey repro's being put on. I'll post pictures at that time with the thread depth. Right now they have 16K documented miles on them.

Sorry, I was looking through an automotive auction catalog since I remember the same subject.

It must be noted these tires were new take offs at the dealer in 1978.

Because I had a ‘78 PC I collected everything related. I have a story behind another set. - too long!

Tires will no longer be available after 7/13. I have no place to store them, so in the tire heap they will go after removal.
