Default ya or na.. add luggage rack?

I always thought they looked cool on a older corvette. My 71 will be delivered here in a week and contemplating adding a rack on back. BUT.. at the same time I hate to start drilling holes in a perfect deck? and of course the work involved dropping the tank and the expense. Car did not come with one so what would be your opinion. I'm leaning on leaving it alone but not sure. I know I have plenty of other things to spend money on the car like exhaust etc.

The rack will be a personal choice for you. Mounting them does not require dropping the tank.

I like my luggage rack. I store the t-tops on it.

I've always been a big fan of a nice rack ….. just not on a Corvette.

I vote no. There are soooo many cars now with the racks. I see a lot of C3s with racks but rarely do I ever see any one using it. I agree with your statement of drilling holes in a perfect deck. If you or someone else ever decides to get rid of the rack, filling the holes will be expensive and the holes will probably show up again in the future.

Luggage racks belong on stationwagons and minivans.

Why are you contemplating adding one? If you want one, put it on.

When my ‘69 was delivered I couldn’t take mine off fast enough.

It's your vette and decision. My opinion is no rack. Drive it and give it some time to before you decide.

No rack.
Much cleaner looking without it.

Obviously this is personal choice. Some folks love them, others not so much.

For me, it is like wearing a condom when banging a hooker: practical, but ruins the experience.

I vote no.

True. The urge to install a rack may gradually go away when you consider everything involved/possible future removal of the rack/other mods that are more beneficial/etc.

OR....you may, after driving the car for a while, be positive that a rack is what YOU like best for YOUR car.

When I was looking to purchase, a rack was an instant disqualifier. But that's just me, obviously a lot of people like them

I like the look of the rack on a coupe...particularly a darker colored car. Not so hot on a convertible, IMO. I would not install one just for looks. If you NEED to use the rack to carry some things on the rear deck, put one on it. If you don't, I would suggest that you not install one.

Of course, it's your car, and if you think it looks better with the luggage rack...go for it. Just make sure that you position it so that your fuel lid clears it OK.

majority seem to lean on 'no'.. so that is what I needed to hear. I'm not going to add one. I had a 68 once and it didn't have one and I was just fine without it. Guess ok with me on or off- but going to opt to not add one. Thanks everyone

Good choice on not drilling holes in your car! Pick up a 78-82 Vette for long road trips.

I was not for or against a luggage rack before I bought my Corvette. I bought a Convertible that had a rack. I've been on the fence on whether to take it off when/if I ever get my car painted but after a few trips with no room and I was forced to use the rack I'll never get rid of it. If you have a convertible you know what I mean when the top is down and you are going to the beach for a week.

Used my rack just today, My canopy won't fit inside, so I tie it on the rack. It would have been a miserably hot day at the car show without it today!

If mine came with it, I would not have removed it. I have no desire or need to add one though, since I will not travel in the C3. I don't hate them, but they are not do anything for me.
