Default 1970 po2 hubcaps mystery

I recently purchased a set of PO2 caps from a gentleman who stated the dealer had supplied them at the time he purchased a new 1970 Corvette. He did not use them for some time but at some point he unwrapped them and discovered that all four caps were not the same. Three of the caps had the crossed flags center cap on the black background but one of them had the crossed flags on a "gold" background. For whatever reason he mounted and used the caps for a short time before removing them and putting them in storage. I will also mention that the center caps are the "flat" kind instead of the raised kind. From what I have read I thought the flat centers were non-corvette but these came with the car from the dealer so...…? To continue the story...I removed the center caps and discovered all four have the same numbers stamped on the back. The numbers are: 3963403 which is underneath the letters PT. NOs.… under that is the number 3963402 ASSY but it has been "crossed out".... finally below that is the number 3972794. My C3 knowledge is very limited but I do not recall ever having seen a center caps like this "gold" one. I would post pics but I am an old guy who has to get his 11 yr old grandson to print out his email so I offer this. I have phone pics. If anyone would like to message me with your phone number I will send you the pics and you can post them. Maybe after viewing someone will be able to shed some light on this. Any info is appreciated. Thanks, Don

You are correct about the flat center ones were not used on the corvettes. They were used on the Impala and Caprice so it would make sense that the Chevy deadly would have them. As to the one gold one in the group, it may of been a custom order for someone.
You might want to check with the folks at Impala Bob’s http://www.impalas.com/

These wheel covers are basically the same as the Vette covers but with different centers. I know someone used to sell only the center caps for Vette"s to make them right. I bought a bunch of these in 15" form from a few different GM makes to assemble a very nice set for my 70 Vette.

here they are
