I have been a Corvette fan for 55 years since I was about 8 years old, but I never saw this movie. (not sure why) I guess I was a bit preoccupied in 78. From the trailer, it appears that I did not miss much, but back then I may have liked it. I was quite different back then.
To me the car looks kind of cartoonish, but to each his own.

I was 18 when the movie came out and I liked it at the time.... it was no Dukes of Hazzard, but it was fun.

I saw this movie when it came out in the theatre.
I own the movie and have watched it several times since.
I don't find it any better or worse then the rest of the old car movies.

'Corvette Summer' was such an Academy Award "blockbuster" that in my area it didn't open in the theater, it went straight to the drive-in, and played for only about 2 weeks. HOWEVER, my wife and I were just dating back then, and she had a '76 C-3, so we drove it to the drive-in, and got a few "yucks" out of the movie...

Of course this movie looks weird. We’re cherry picking – you have to put the movie in context first. Think about the clothes we were wearing, what was on TV and all that. What did other cars look like at the time? Khan was still selling rich Corinthian leather – it would be a while yet before he got back to being an arch supervillain. I look back at some things and just shake my head.I remember seeing this movie as a kid and thinking it was cool to see Luke Skywalker in that ‘vette. Annie Potts made a much bigger impression on me at the time.

This movie was part of what got me hooked on cars n vettes. To say it sucked or was a waste of film is just wrong.
It’s a marker of the times and the younger generations push to be creative n make their mark.

If you didnt like Corvette Summer, you probably wouldnt like Hells Angels 69. Currently on Netflix. I remember watching Corvette summer at the drive in, on a warm summer night. It served its purpose, entertainment, a reason to drink a few beers, a little smoke, and make out with a long ago past love. Ahhh summer movies!

I didn't like the Corvette Summer movie, the car and acting to me... sucked... One thing I do remember was that TMCS had a big to do about it in Ohio.... I'm not sure of the particulars, but I believe there was a parade and a grand preview for the movie in Napoleon Ohio before it hit the big screen... This was about the time Terry had shops in Ohio and California... Someone might email him and ask the details and I've got some old literature here somewhere on this... I'll have to check and possibly scan it for reference.
