Loved the movie enough to build a RHD. I also managed to get to get to Mid America Motorworks and sit in Mike Yagers car before he sold it.
It was driven by motorcycle chains behind the dash. I got a steering box from Australia to convert mine

So I won't have to suffer through watching this disaster, can someone explain why they built the car as a right hand drive?

The perfect drive in movie - best enjoyed with a flat coke, stale popcorn and a moldy candy bar.....

I saw it when it was a "first run" movie, in the theater....

The discussions of it, here, got me thinking, and I looked into picking up a DVD of it, but A) there seem to be only bogus editions of it, mostly on E-bay; and B) they're quite expensive, especially if they're some bootlegged copy.

Its not a big point in the film, actually there isnt much attention on any of the radical custom work, they show out of sync bits and pieces of the class building it,

when the school class takes the car out to a cruise spot to show off a comment is made that people were diggin the rhd, and after the car is supposedly stolen mark tells the cops its one of a kind, easy to spot has rhd,

In the real world Korky hack jobbed it together,
Motor cycle sprockets and chain running from right side to left,
Like c3 steering wasnt drifty and sloppy enough already,
this placed the steering shaif at a real obnoxious angle the wheel right in drivers lap, i read mark h, hated driving it and he was skinny.

The movie is a "car" movie but more focus is on marks character coming of age, he tracks the car down, steals it back gets a girlfriend, returns car to school/man who stole/sold it...end of film

hows that for a spoiler....lol

A correctly setup Saginaw vette box is far from drifty or sloppy.

It was a silly 70s movie about cars and Annie Potts in short shorts. That was enough for most of us. No valuable original irreplaceable “late model Corvette” (that’s what they called that gen in the late 70s; “C3” hadn’t been dreamed up yet) was “destroyed” in order to build an over the top custom that would have been typical for a high school shop class’s idea of a custom. And to put it in context, Corvettes in general were far more routinely customized in that manner back then. Take a peek at “Vette Quarterly” or “Corvette Power” from that time frame, again, for context.

Id also point out that this particular ugly-*** movie car is worth quite a bit more than any stocker they built it out of.

The car crowd that watched that movie repeatedly for fun back then, usually at a drive in, were particularly enamored with what Hamil’s character said early in the movie: “it’s not a car, it’s a Corvette.”

Trust me, Corvette people loved the movie back then, even if kids in 2018 don’t get it.

They were offended. They wanted to bury the car.

I read somewhere that the RHD was so Mark could talk to and pick up girls easier! Lou.
