Reverse Light Upgrade
After upgrading my dash lights to LEDs, I am considering upgrading my backup lights also. Any suggestions for a brighter LED replacement for the #1156 reverse bulb? Or use Superbrightled's 1156?.....they are quite expensive compared to others.......experiences?.....

You can do a 'search this forum' and type in LED to find lot's of info about problems and solutions. Here is the latest I've seen on the subject.

Seems like the problems start after changing the side marker lights; it kinda makes things go crazy.

I buy from Superbrites- the other stuff out there is a crap shoot. Yep- it cost more upfront- but that's usually cheaper than doing it a second time.
SO for $20 more than the cheap stuff -you'll get something that fits AND works.

I'd go with the pictured Superbrights. I have some eBay specials in my 79. They are not sufficient. Check the angle of the socket, too. 79 is pointed down, so the projector style is less effective. The omnidirectional Superbrights would likely be better in this case, too.

another thought. Go with the double tail lights with no backup lights in them. And then do something like the license plate frame with the LED backup lights built into it.

Thanks, all, for your replies. I believe I'll go with the Superbrights. I want brighter tail lights than stock, but not something that will heat up the lenses (hence LEDs). I want to keep it stock looking with the '69 backup lights that only shine when in reverse, keeping the #1156 bulb platform. I put Superbrights in the dash and cluster (#1895) and am very satisfied with the improvement......like night to day. They are dimmable and I highly recommend them. Oh, well.....more money into the pit!

For the front you should be able to buy a switchback LED 1157. White when park lights are one, amber with turn signals. IIRC Superbright sells them.
