Loose Mirror on my 68
Hi fellas,
A few months ago I had to reset my driver's side mirror on my 68 (cliff notes: wife's fault). Regardless, I used a well-nut kit from CC. Reason was the plate inside my door that takes the screws appears to have vanished. Remains unsolved. I moved on. Seemed to go ok. The base seems tight to the side of the door however the mirror, when mounted, seems loose. I took it off and examined the base plate to make sure it was not that, and it is not. (meaning it is still tight). The set screw is tightened all the way but the mirror still moves around on the base. The mirror is a Paragon reproduction that has been on my car for years. I think the base plate was swapped out when I bought the well-nut kit. Any thoughts? Thanks

Put a ball of play-doh on the bottom of the mirror and push it on the base. My guess is that the base and mirror don't fit very well and a little grinding of the base plate is in order. That's what I had to do to my aftermarket mirror.

Related mirror issue. Mirror will not stay where set. Base is solid so not my issue. the ball and socket do not fight tight anymore. Any ideas appreciated. Mine is a 77.

John,
Hello from Fla.
I'm a new SRO in Pinellas County now.
As for the mirror issue.
I had an after market passenger mirror/base set up and while driving the glass just fell out onto the highway and shattered.
It was always loosening up too.
I found an original mirror base with the GM # will not work with the reproduction mirrors and vise a versa.
I bit the bullet and purchased a NOS base and mirror combo.
No problems so far.
Hope this helps.
Get to west coast Fla sometime give me a call.
