Default Finished my interior. photos

Finally finished my interior in my 75 Vert. Was more work than I thought it would be. I had to repair several things which took a lot of the extra time. Recovering the seats was an adventure. I had ordered 1972 red seats several years ago. The covers were still in the box they came in. Ordered new foam too. Putting the bottom covers on I could see that the trough in the foam for the cover to pull down in with the corrugated wire was back about an inch too far. I modified the foam and then they fit very well. I also noticed that the color was slightly off, but just chalked both issues up to normal aftermarket BS. When I had the backs attached to the foam I saw 76-78 in red magic marker on the inside of the side flap of the cover. I rolled the top up to look for the area the top trim/retainer goes on the 69 to 75 style seat. It was not there. These were the wrong covers. I again modified the foam and then they fit really nice.

All in all, I think it came out pretty good. The color mismatch doesn't show that bad. I see it, but I don't think most people will notice, it does bug me though.

Mike

PS: The iPhone photos don't really capture the color that well. It looks more red in person. More brilliant or dynamic, something, just better.

Looks really nice, did you have to dye any of the original parts?

Yes, all of them. I used the 68 to 72 red die, that's why my seats, which were also supposed to be 72 red don't match perfectly.

How many cans of dye did it take you. I’m needing to do the same to my interior but I don’t want to buy too much, or too little.

People who think they can design a better interior for these cars than GM did are deluded. This looks great.

You might consider having a blended match paint for your car. SEM is a great product. Check their website. Having a qt. blended and using something like
Amazon Amazon
could really be an advantage. NOTE its not a dye rather a paint with an elastomer bonding agent. Preparation is the key to success. Clean, clean, clean plus the prepping conditioner.
Run a search on this forum. There's a bunch of good info.

About a dozen cans. Stuff doesn't go that far.

I have a black 79 with red interior. I have to say, I LOVE the black carpet you have in yours. You've got me seriously thinking about it, as opposed to the red that's in there now.

The all red is just a little too much for me. I've always liked to put a little contrast into what i'm building.

Really nice work! It looks terrific as it is. Color difference is minimal...much less than many parts for interior of NEW 70's cars.

Just for consideration: I changed over to nearly the same steering wheel as you, but re-colored the black leather with vinyl dye to match the interior. I like it. Not saying yours needs it. Just a suggestion.
