I remember when they cut the speed limit on the interstate to 55 MPH. That also was a real PITA. Doubling of gas prices. Ever increasing emissions when the only technology revolved around some form or recirculation. Never really worked while fuel mileage dropped by a lot. Was not a great time for cars.

I remember the ‘73 gas crisis very well. We had even/odd days. I had a ‘67 GTO convertible. Traded it in on a Vega GT.
The horsepower was dropping due to planned government regulations. I remember more than one new ‘75 catching fire when they were left idling over grass/leaves when I worked at Reedmans. I worked on the used car lot. Lot’s of great cars being traded in due to the gas shortage and high insurance. I even got to drive a real L88 and a Hemi Road Runner.

I grew up in Dayton, Ohio and don't remember any long gas lines there. During the winter of 72 my 68 Camero 396 SS was rear ended while stopped at a light. So I bought new 73 Camero LT. Hated it! Drove it about 18 months and traded it for my first Vette, a 69 427 4 speed T-top, gas crisis be damned!

My buddy bought a 71 HEMI Roadrunner around 1974 from a friend for $2,000.00 because of the gas crisis. They laughed and said he'd never get that for it in the future. In the early 90's, he sold it for $35,000.00
