Generator Brush holder for 81 Vette
I need a replacement set of brush holders for my 1981 Corvette. The Generator/Alternator has the following stampings:
1101 297 108A (might be 1084-stamp is not clear)
7/07 12 V Neg (assuming the alternator has been replaced prior to my ownership)
The depth of my spring/brush portion is 1.43-inches (36.4 mm) overall. A friend who also has an 81 Vette had a spare brush holder that has a overall measurement of 1.03-inches (26.2 mm) and its too short for my spring & brush combination.
I'm looking for help in finding the correct part number that I need to purchase. Also if anyone can tell me what type of alternator I have by the stampings, it would be appreciative.

GM used the same brush holder in everything since 1968. When they changed over to the internal regulator. Your local parts store might have one. I've rebuilt dozens of GM alternators and they've all been the same. Only thing I can possibly think of is a difference between some of the higher output alternators used a bigger case.

I think it was for a Chevy Caprice. OE brush holder # D770 You may be able to use a different one. Do you have a pic of the old one. The D770 was a bit odd used very little, and I doubt if you would need that specific one.I think a common 17SI brush holder would work for you.

Just got off the phone with AC Delco. You are correct the D770 is the part number for the brush holder assembly. the rep. did not have the P/N for just the brush holder. On my way to eBay to buy the replacement.
Thanks a lot.
