VIN door decal for '73 Question
I purchased one of these VIN decals for my '73's door jamb. My question is... once I've figured out the numbers, etc., to type, WHERE do I get them typed? And what is the font and point size? Thanks in advance for any help.

I bought a refurbished 70's era typewriter from a local merchant. Typed in the correct info for my '73 and it looks period correct. I'm pretty satisfied with the results.

Greg's is good, but the original font is a sans-serif typeface. That would require a different font ball. But short of buying an old typewriter, I guess there's no place to have this done nowadays.

If you put mine side by side with an original you could tell a slight difference in the font. But seeing as I have no access to any device that has the sans-serif font I went with "close as possible".
If your car is being judged I'm afraid you'll have to keep looking, or perhaps one could find a way to print the sans-serif on to the tag via computer or print shop.
My car is not being judged so I felt that would be a lot more time/cost than I was willing to invest.
The used 70's era typewriter cost me $75, which may seem excessive for one door tag but I had other uses for it so I didn't mind paying that price.
I can understand why others might not want to spend that much just to type in their own numbers so I can offer this, if anyone is interested; any member who wants to mail their sticker to me along with the pertinent info, I'd be happy to type them up at no cost and mail back. I don't mind investing the cost of a stamp to help out a Corvette brother.
Again, look at the picture I posted of mine. It is NOT an exact duplicate of the original if your car is up for judging, but pretty close for an every day driver.
Mark if you do find a reasonable alternative with the sans-serif font, please post it here, I'd be happy to know as well.
Best, Greg

Excellent job, Greg. I'll be sure to let you know if I find any alternative with a sans-serif font ball. Thanks!

Good find 69FASTTFUN,
Corvette Central would be the choice, even at $50. ECS seems pretty high at $125 for this door label.

Yes, 1970 was the same.
Edit:
I just re-read your post John and realized you were not asking about the VIN decal, but the GM Mark of Excellence decal.
Correct answer is that this decal was introduced on GM lines from 1964-'67 and were Turquoise in color. Then they switched in late 1967 to the Dark Blue color and stayed with that color until 1974. They were dropped for the 1975 model year (too bad). The only year they were actually installed on Corvettes from the factory was 1967 (Turquoise).
Why they were not installed on Corvettes along with all the other GM lines for their 10 year run is a mystery to me. But I think they look sharp and only cost a few bucks, and while not "technically" correct, they are certainly "period" correct so I usually like to install them.
Cheers, Greg

Melting Slicks
Thanks for the information too Greg. I bought some years ago but didn't put them on cause they weren't factory installed on (at least) a '72. I shall dig them out and plant them on mine. I like the look.
