I am one of those people who purchased a JCPenney unlimited lifetime battery back in March 1, 1976 for my 1969 Corvette that I still have.Does anyone else have one of these?

Anyway, according to the thread, you call JCPenny Customer service 1-800 -322 -1189 number, and then call the manager of my nearest JCPenney store, who called me back and read the policy to me: "Go get your own battery and bring the paperwork to us and we will reimburse you up to $120.00."

So, who makes a great battery to replace mine? I haven’t purchased a heavy-duty battery in 41 years

well... that wasn't very smart of them now was it?

although... it would be interesting to see a chart comparison of how much they made/lost on that... i cant imagine them making money on that scheme between TV ads and replacing batteries.... buuuut what was the turnover rate on cars sold after they bought it... interesting

I am a fan of Walmart batteries and have them in many of my cars and recreational/lawn equipment.

The last on I had was an Interstate MT34 that lasted 10 years. My mechanic says the Legend batteries are pretty good.

Better hurry up and get the reimbursement because JCPenny isn't going to be around that much longer..... I've been lucky with AutoZone's Duralast Gold series batteries.

Bought a $59 walmart battery for my Camino in a pinch, turns out it cranks just as strong but much longer than any optima or delco Ive had, i was surprised.

With all the cranking Ive done on that thing either of the others woulda been dead over and over. Ill never buy a pricy battery again. Add a warranty for a few dollars, ya just cant beat it. Noones impressed by what brand battery you have anyways

That was the "catch" to their deal...you needed your sales receipt AND the same car that you originally put the battery in. How many people, back then (besides C-3 Corvette owners ) kept their cars longer than the life of a good battery?

I brought the best Interstate battery(1000cca) and it lasted a little over a year(5 year warranty) they charged me $85 for a replacement which lasted a month which they wouldn't honor the warranty because I got a little yellow paint on the bottom. I brought the best one from advanced auto and that one seems to be working(3 year replacement). I had a Sears die hard which lasted 12 years in my vette and a die hard that lasted 8+ years in my wifes vette.

I've had good luck with Napa Legend batteries. All 4 vehicles as my house have one. No problems with any of them.

The companies you list manufacture the majority of the batteries in the USA. I've had good luck with Duralast [and have a good warranty], they are made by Johnson controls.

MIne is from Batteries and Bulbs. I know it sounds hokey, but $110.00 Duracell, 3 years replacement warranty. Had to buy Interstate for my Sonata though, $175.00 ouch. 3 years on it too.

I think this is how I may go. As I mentioned my mechanic recommended it for my XRS Corolla when I needed a battery. The car was totaled soon after when I stopped on the LIE and the car behind my didn't. Did I mention she had an expired license and not insurance? I digress....When they totaled the car I put in an old dead battery I had. No sense giving them a brand new battery. I thought about that battery, but the polls are opposite of the Corvette. It had been sitting about a year and half. I hooked up the charger and it went straight to full charge in less than 5 minutes.

Back in 2008 when I got my last exchange, the guy from Firestone mentioned most of the owners had antique old cars, like Rolls and Bentley. Like Corvette owners, they planned to keep their cars. I can't believe I found all of my original paperwork

This discussion just jogged something in my memory bank. Back in 1971, I had a "summer job", selling mens/boys clothing, in one of the JC Penney stores that was in my area. Like the greater majority of the Penneys stores, this one did not have a Penneys Auto Center (remember them??) connected to it. But of course, there was a catalog sales counter, in the store. My best friend was a full time employee of the store, and he was responsible for me getting hired. Anyway, he overheard me telling somebody that I needed to get a new battery for my car, and he told me not to buy one. Turns out that someone had bought a battery through the catalog, and for some reason, they decided to return it. Since it was a Penneys purchase, they had to accept the return at the store, but they had no mechanism to send it back to a warehouse, because it was considered a "hazardous material", since the shipping package was opened. They were happy to give me the battery, and get it off their hands....

I had purchased a J C Penney battery for my 68 coupe and it died one month short of thirteen years. These were the first sealed batteries with a totally flat top with no caps. The battery trickle charger that I used from Sears cooked
the water out of the battery. I did not know that it was possible to pry off the two flat plastic seals on the top of the battery to check the water level. You really were not suppose to touch them. The Penney's auto centers
were gone by then and I got one replacement battery from the adjacent Firestone facility as directed by them. Lou.
