Default Oil Filter gasket blow out

New member with a new project car. 1968 Vette with a CE block 3914678. Originally issue was low oil pressure of around 5 PSI when idling and 15 when at 3K. I replaced the oil pump and now the oil filter gasket dislodges and dumps all of the oil. I checked the oil filter (PF454) gasket and it appears to be too small is this possible? The machined area where the gaskets rest is 3.25 inches inside. I used two different filters that were to fit a 327?

are you tightening the filter 3/4 to 1 turn after the gasket touches the pad?
what is the pressure reading before the gasket dislodges?

curious.
new pump?
is it a high pressure or volume?
isn;t the proper filter a pf25? pf454 is the small one.
shouldn't matter though.

Default Stuck relief valve

Thanks everyone for you input, turns out it was a stuck bypass valve on the pump looks like it picked up a pice of plastic. Not sure where it came from. Its back togeather and is working ok. Thanks again Joe

On OEM ... there's a plastic "collar" located at juncture of oil pump & dist Intermediate shaft ... it's there as a retainer. It's white when new. It becomes very brittle and yellow with age. They VERY commonly fracture and fall into pan, then oil screen, pump.

-edit- Also many OE timing sets have a metal cam gear that's overmolded with a white plastic. It helps reduce noise and referred to as "silent." As above. it gets brittle and yellows with age. And commonly breaks off, into pan.

We have a pass here called Cajon pass that liked to eat those two items. LOL (At least finish them off).

This is a better setup.

Need to get the heavier duty GM racing parts to replace that mess: 14087014, 10128346, 340235. I just bought a set on Ebay. New 602 circle track engine take-offs for $43 delivered. MUCH BETTER.

ZAPOTJO...

Just so you are aware -- Reading "low" oil pressure on the gauge in your dash (5-15psi) is NORMAL. GM designed the stock oil pump so that it delivered pressure as a function of increasing RPM. That gauge is not very accurate....especially at lower pressures. It is only there to give you some indication of pressure CHANGE from what you normally see on it.

Your idling engine doesn't need much oil pressure to keep it 'happy'. Putting a high pressure pump in your engine just results in higher fuel costs, as more fuel is required to produce more [unnecessary] work from the oil pump. If your car is used for racing, that new pump might be necessary. If you use it like most of us, the GM oil pump is a reliable, efficient, and well-suited device for normal engine use. With the pump that you have, you must make sure that your oil filter is screwed down pretty tight to keep the seal from blowing out.

At 70..thats suicide. Believe me copd and emphysema will ruin your life. 50 and dealing with it. Have lots of people aroudn to do everything for ya, youll need it.
Can lead to polycythemia, blood clots, got a leg and lung full of em. Its not living its just existing. All from yrs in a workplace with dirty ac systems..Wait til youre 80 and are decrepit then it wont matter lol.
Back on topic..
