New exhaust regulations for 2019.
Looks like another revenue generating scam.
Classic car owners need to be aware of this

Perks of living in a mostly free state, I don't have to deal with stupid laws like these and no vehicle inspections either.

The main thing I see wrong with this new regulation is limiting it to vehicles under 6000 lbs GVW Out here in Western Colorado everybody and their brother drives a jacked up 4X4 diesel crew cab pickup. Few have stock exhaust systems. My neighbor has one and I know when he's on his way home. I can hear that stink wagon from over a 1/4 mile away. In my younger days, if my cars made that much noise I would have been on the side of the road with Johnny-law every week!

Or the gardeners thrashed SUV with straight pipes on it.

Makes me paranoid to even take mine out, with property seizure laws they can do anything they want. Good luck fighting that giant, know from experience its a waste of time.
Last car I had impounded (fresh frame off 70 Z/28) there wasnt much left of it. Once they were done joyriding it and breaking the engine and rearend they started stripping parts off it. Nothing you can do.

I aint even mad. non residents dont know the crazy number of cars drving thru streets and highways in many parts of california. its not just like one car buzzing around in the middle of nowhere usa. there are millions of cars and can get annoying when a crappy civic or motorcycle flies by every minute.
honestly i think theyre just targeting newer cars, and not older carb collector etc. Ive never had problems with my cars. Ive run open header and glasspacks in my classics, if i try it on my bmw ill for sure get pulled over.

Real problem with this law is that the burden of proof is on you. No certification testing requirements for the cops dB meter. If you get written up you have to pay for a “real” inspection
gotta love this state

I have to ask, How many of you that have posted comments, actually read AB1824 and all associated California Vehicle Code (CVC) Sections written into and included into AB1824 and referenced in the California Vehicle Code.

The only thing that has changed in California law with AB1824 is that a law enforcement officer now has the option and "MAY" issue "EITHER" a notice of correction (fix it ticket) "OR" a promise to appear (citation with fine for the violation).

All the CVC Sections referenced in AB1824 and all related CVC Sections referred within the CVC have not changed and have been in affect for many years.

So if you are driving like an idiot on the roadways in the State of California with no mufflers, cut outs, a bypass, or "excessive loud" exhaust, now you could pay a fine.

Otherwise, nothing has changed.

I also researched the fine amounts for the violation and it appears it will be the standard fine for an infraction violation, however the Court costs and fees will vary dependent on the County you are cited in.

yes. thats what im saying its not gonna change anything, ive never had problems. its directed to the idiots who **** off cops. people have always been pulled over, now they are forced to pay and permanently fix. not just swap exhausts or install a silencer for a write-off.
Same thing with front plates, hids, hydraulics, tint, etc. its always been illegal/fix it, but they start making direct fines. were the custom car capital of the world. cops usually dont care so long as youre not being an unsafe idiot to everyone, or just unlucky.

The statute basically states either pay a fine or correct the mechanical violation.
The basic fine for a first infraction in California is $100.00.
Add court costs and fees and you could be looking at a total of $350-$400.
A second offense of the same violation is $200.00 plus court costs and fees.
A third offense of the same violation is $500.00 plus court costs and fees.
So add the costs and fees and you could be looking at some big fines for repeat offenders.
I love it.
A couple of guys in my neighborhood have Harleys and they are so loud they set off car alarms when they ride down the street late at night. The only problem is they can afford to pay the fines.

Nope.
I've had Harley's and sport bikes with modified exhaust, and numerous vehicles over the years with headers and good quality mufflers.
I've never had a problem.
My boats were drag runners with open headers.
The difference is that there is a time and place to race and a time and place to drive responsibly.
