Confirm '68 Carb Model 327/300hp
Hey,
I need a replacement carb for my 1968 327/300hp, 4 spd manual convertible.....
The fuel filter inlet is stripped. I have a Rochester 4bbl P/N 7028213 on there and need to get a rebuilt unit to replace it.
Can anyone confirm the actual model and maybe a part number? I'm being told by some carb folks that this isnt the correct carb for the car.
Decoding the part number it seems that this one I have is correct, just need to find a replacement.
Thanks in advance for the help!!

The Black Book lists 7028207 for the 300hp 4 spd.

Thanks Mike.....that's a book I dont have...
I believe the carb got swapped sometime in '68 or '69 but I cant confirm that....
The car was delivered Oct 1967 so is there a different P/N for a 1967 Rochester QJ? Seems the one I have and the P/N you gave me are '68 produced carbs....

Ahhhh.....wasn't thinking....u da man! Thanks again!
So now I have a 7028213 on the car, black book says 7028207, another NCRS source says 7028219....
I'm not sweating date codes here so I guess anything that starts with 702 and ends with a 2 (QJ4bbl), 0 or 1 for Chev) and a 1,3,5,7 or 9 (for manual trans) should work.....as these 3 numbers do....
Why they gotta be so difficult?

Drifting
the 7028213 is NOT a corvette specific carb. its a 327 carb for a chevelle, el camino, etc.
the 7028207 is the correct carb for a 68 327/300 hp
the 7028219 is for the l79 corvette
if you are not concerned with numbers matching, then why not just get your current carb rebuilt?

Just another Corvette guy
If you're not concerned with numbers, there are several 7028213's on eBay right now, for as low as $75.

The carb you have on the car now is a commercially rebuilt carb, and I don't recommend using it - it is missing several parts in addition to the stripped inlet (which can be fixed), and I can assure you that the carb has at least another dozen problems from the commercial builder. Find a good, used, original carb that has not been commercially rebuilt and hacked, and start with that.
If you are not concerned about "the numbers," you can use any 1968 - 1974 Chevy passenger car Q-Jet. Correctly rebuilt and set up, they will all run exactly the same. If you want the carb to be visually identical to a '68, you need to find a '68 or '69 carb - they both have the Idle Vent "Doghouse," which your current commercially built carb is missing. You can e-mail me for additional info, including the problems with the commercial carbs, how to identify them, and what to look for when you go shopping for a used carb.
