Default Just Bought a 1976 C3 Corvette

I just bought a 1976 C3 corvette. It needs some work but it should be a fun project. I am wondering though if this sounds like a stock motor or whether someone installed a Cam. Or is it just not running right. It seems to run great with no hesitation.

Here's how to tell if you might have a healthy motor. Does it start instantly? Does it idle smoothly (under 2K rpm) once it warms up? Does it accelerate well, with no protest or strain? Does it shut off, without dieseling or running after the key is switched off? Does it run without overheating? Oil Pressure good? Does the oil look healthy (it doesn't look like sludge or smell burnt)? Even with all of that, mine ran well, even with one piston having low compression (60 PSI), but did have strain on acceleration and didn't sound quite 'right'. If you have any doubts, check the timing, carb mix and after that check the compression and see where you're at on all eight cylinders.

It starts surprisingly well considering the weather we are having in Ohio. Seems to have no hesitation. I also have a c5 corvette and am looking forward to using this forum.

Good to have you in this section, I started with my 78 and then also got a c5 (2002).
