If that emblem was painted along with the car, you don't want to mess with it. Try to remove it and the paint at the edges of the letters will peel and tear and it will look like s4!+.
I agree. Leave it alone if its been painted with the bumper. (unless you want to get the bumper sprayed again.
As for accessing the nut it was one of the easier jobs I've done on my 81.

i just checked mine and it does look do-able.
There is one bolt on that triangle piece on the back #5. and there are two on the inside. that do look accessible. They look tough to get out. but i think if you really wanna do it without removing the bumper it is very possible.
