Mostly fine, just surface rust. I had the body off the frame.

A few of body mount holes were rusted out, small crack at lower control arm mounting point, small cracks where steering ram bolted to frame.

I fully welded and braced the frame as per Chevy power.

Reassuring, are the body mount holes a difficult repair? I'm going to assume my car will need some kind of repair like that for the price.

Can now confirm it's not a stolen car based off the vin, HUGE thank you to Leigh1322 for his help so far. Waiting for some close up pictures of the door jams and frame around the rear wheels before I make a decision on paying for it.

So what's up with the trim tag?

I don't think anything is up with the trim tag - it looks legit for a 71 (technically it could be a 69 tag, but since the car is advertised as a 71, and has a 71 vin, it's probably the correct 71 trim tag).

I just received these pictures and i'm confident the frame is solid. Lots of surface rust but nothing a wire brush on a grinder wont clean up. Afterall it's a 7k car and I can't expect a showcar.

That looks pretty pitted to me, especially on the inside. And it definitely wasn’t coated in POR-15.

I agree that it wasn’t coated with POR15 but what I see isn’t fatal. You just want to clean it up and paint it fairly soon.

Encountered my first problem. I want to change the hood to an l88 one, but if the front clip has been changed will a 68/72 hood fit?

no, the factory windshield wiper mechanism for the shutter door are all gone from this car.
you will need a L88 long hood, not the shorter 68-72 hood.

Right i've finally finished the deal on the car. Had no idea international payments could get you flagged for potential fraud/money laundering, a real learning curve! Car should be at the mechanics this week getting it roadworthy for it's trip home. Here are pics of the BBS E50 Magnesium wheels i've bought off Leigh1322 , I've not seen these fitted to a vette before and hope my car has had the E brake mount moved to allow the wider rims to fit.

They were originally gold, however i'm in two minds about refinishing them as the oxidised magnesium look is growing on me!

Parts have started arriving! Got a great deal on these bubble mirrors & what I believe is an original GM luggage rack. Will need to be rechromed. Have bought l88 flares, a big block hood, electric headlight motor kit and hopefully enough interior parts to get the centre console and gauges back to stock...ish. Still trying to work a deal on 2 headlight assemblies, they really aren't easy to find nor cheap.
Plan is to trim the interior in black leather with red stitching using partsfrom JF customs here in the UK and hopefully add some diamond stitching to the door panels, new black carpet and leather Miata seats with red diamond stitching to match the door panels. Still waiting on the seller to get the service work done on the engine and brakes before I can arrange shipping.

An example of the leather trim, i've seen them mentioned on the c5/c7 forum but never on a c3...

The gauge bezel arrived, thankfully already cut for a din headunit. Any suggestions on restoring it? I'm thinking paintstrip and respray masking off the chrome around the edges? And also a picture with the vintage Pioneer headunit i've been saving since I was a teenager for this build.

Finally some good news on the car. Leigh went over to check it out for me yesterday and confirmed the frame and birdcage are totally solid, along with the body mounts. I took a big risk on this car, buying it based only on the terrible ebay pictures but I think the risk paid off. Does anyone know what wheels are currently fitted to it?

Leigh was kind enough to upload 200 pictures of the car, the door lines look amazing, no uneven gaps or sagging visible, main concerns are

Lots of small areas of damage to the fibreglass
Front lower grills are both a mess, can anyone see what has happened? Have the mounting points broken off the grills or something?
Passenger side exhaust isn't mounted correctly, i'm planning on refitting the trim behind them so both will have to come off at some point
The fake side vents have been fibreglassed in, so perhaps the front clip is original? I want to cut them out and replace with the correct style allowing for the egg crate vents to be refitted.
Wiring harness is a bit of a mess and may need to be entirely replaced, thankfully electronic repairs are another hobby of mine so i'm pretty handy with a soldering iron, I hope to repair the original.

Pics of the underside, fair amount of surface rust in places but it's solid.

What I liked about the no. 2 body mount was the amount of original green primer showing, very little surface rust even on the bolt head, and all the debris was loose and black, like dirt, not rust. Plus the upper windshield frame looked almost rust free, thru the glass, and even under the upper trim. Nice clean paint was showing. I'm glad you have a solid frame for your project, and most of the fiberglass looks pretty good, except around the front grill area..

Update on the headlights, Grant has been so kind as to basically restore the entire units for me. I'm also really happy I went for original metal bezels.
