chrome air cleaner swap from stock, breather?
Also thinking of getting a chrome air cleaner. Have a stock 75 L-48 with HEI and the chrome shielding which I would like to keep. Of course I am looking for recommendations on one that would fit.
1-Do the 14" cleaners clear the HEI?
2-What's the solution for the right valve cover breather? Looks like some of the covers have a bottom bung for this but I am guessing need to fab or source a new hose?
Thanks.

Valve cover breather goes to engine vacuum and PVC valve. Air filter breather is a boat thing.

Sorry if unclear - my driver side valve cover has the PCV valve, the right has a hose going to the stock air cleaner base. Should the passenger side valve cover vent/breather be going somewhere else?
That is the side I am looking for a solution for if I removed the stock setup.
Thanks.

The hose that went to the breather base is filtered air going into the motor to replace what the PCV valve allows out to the carb. There are many filters available to replace that hose. You may have to replace the grommet in the hole with a larger open one to fit the filter there.
You can get filters from your local auto parts store in the engine dress up section.

Or cut a hole in new base and run the hose into it.

I bought an aftermarket chrome air cleaner from my local auto part store. It takes a 14" diameter with a 2" high filter. It has a low profile, with a drop-down base that fits the quadrajet. It has knock-outs in the bottom for this fitting for the hose.... also a Mr. Gasket part. I do not have HEI, but it looks like it would still fit

Here's a before and after of my wife's 79 L48. The Edelbrock air filter (likely from a 1223K kit) was a 14" x 2" drop base. Lots of hood clearance, and both systems fit the HEI.
If you can find the parts, the L82 dual-snorkel CAI (bottom image) actually does what it is s'posed to, though some say it may limit upper HP at very high RPM. Chrome isn't really my style, but repros are readily available. The Edelbrock breather is visible in both images.

Thanks all for the guidance. Think I found solutions air cleaners with the knockouts to accept stock or can a valve cover breather for the right side, new grommets.
Will keep all the stock stuff as always!
