Began design on headlights inspired by Heartland Customs
I just started toying with it last night. Went from know nothing to fully designing a headlight bezel for my 77 corvette. Instead of making it out of billet, I will make it out of a suitable durable plastic. So far I like program I’m using 3D Design. I will post pictures once I get something more than a concept. The idea will will greatly change over the next month as I source projectors and led lights.

Acura MDX headlights, custom bezels, and stock headlight doors that only open halfway?
Please post the .STL files when you are happy with the design!

This is my first design (and still much in the process) Even though I do not plan on the lights looking like this, I am determined to follow through to the end for academic purposes. I was very limited on style due to a lack of knowing how to do what I want to do in the software. I basically knew absolutely nothing about doing this stuff last week, so I'm trying to learn as I go just to get an idea out and flowing. Below are two of the same basic design, one all solid, one "shelled". The shelled design needs some curves to sexy it up, but I prefer it over the solid one. IMHO, these would probably look a lot better on a C4 (rather than a C3) due to the design elements being more of a rigid geometry.
PLEASE, I WELCOME ALL FEEDBACK (Good, bad, ugly) ON THESE!

As a mechanical Design Engineer and a Industrial Designer I would just give ONE piece of advice....
W.W.L.S.D.
What would Larry Shinoda Do? (or David Holls or Henry Haga).
Adding 'excresences' just for their sake is fussy and sucks the form out of the car.
This is a Curvilinear car....stay with the rounds and KISS keep it simple stupid! LOL
Simple and shapely.
Good try though!

If I were to make a set I would start with an existing set instead of from scratch.
maybe like a bmw e36 housing. remove the glass and build up the box to fill in the c3 doorflap.
Itll be easier to adjust and mod. theres a lot of e36 aftermarket lights too.

Thanks! I actually realized that and trimmed back the funnels quite a bit. It's starting to really take shape now.

less=more
form+function=design
I wouldn't over do it with too much 'extra' stuff.....
It might be worth just going old school with some cardboard/matte board and doing real scale mockups on the car then dial it all in later...

How are you going to fabricate it when you are done?
Back when I thought I wanted to replace the vacuum doors, I looked into PDLC material to use with acrylic covers, replacing the existing doors. I figured on a white car, I could have opaque, white-ish windows, which then turned clear when the headlights came on. That way I wouldn't have to look at the headlights all the time.
Then I realized that the vacuum doors were really cool. But anyway, something to consider.

Me? I think the headlights make the Corvette well- a Vette!!! When I was a kid and first saw the headlights work- wow- that was cool!!!
Vacuum sux...I did change to electric- but haven't messed with the actual headlights..yet.
I have looked at a lot of designs- and this is what I would do-
Some really nice projectors that fit the headlight door- angles/spacing already figured out and has a fog light incorporated-
AND they have glass covers- not that cheap plastic
Off a BMW E31

Thanks! i will definitly look into that. I'm not big on white, but maybe if I could find something that was dark.
I've seen all the popular conversions out there, FIA/Monza. Not a fan of the rigid structure, nor am I fan of the rectangle lights. Also, I'm looking to eliminate my turn signals that are down in the grill area and fab up some fog lights for there. Relocating the signals is what is driving the functionality of this project. That Menace vette has really inspired me too. I'll never have that level of quality of car, but I can definitely take some styling cues and do some subtle customizing to get the look that I like.

Been toying with the idea for the recessed type to replace my vacuum set as well......and nearly went through with it.....then thought back when I was younger -
and it seems part of the appeal of a Corvette was always the hideaway headlights.....so I guess I'll keep them for now.
Nice looking designs, way more elaborate than could do.
