Default New Fiber Optic Trim Plate - No threads?

Got my replacement fiber optic trim plate for my 1969, and it’s nice, clean and heavy...but on the posts, there are NO threads!?

Here’s my old one...

here’s my new one...

So do I simply need to use my die thread cutter? Anyone seen this?

The proper pal nuts are self-threading.

Ok...that's good news, assuming that's what I have. They look like a little top hat with a hex nut attached.

I'll have to do some research. Thanks though!!

Those are hex sheet metal nuts. They self-thread onto a tapered, but smooth metal post....just like the new one.

Ok. Learn something new every day. I guess I will chuck in the correct sized wrench bit into my ratchet screwdriver and see what happens.

Thanks again!!

7T1 is correct. The threads you see on the old post are from screwing on the self tapping nuts. Very easy to thread on the new piece.

Be aware that you just need to 'snug' those sheet metal nuts to just remove any looseness. If you over-torque those nuts, they will just spin on the post. You won't damage anything; but the fit will never be sufficiently 'tight' afterwards. Once you snug that nut down, leave it alone.
