you dont have the upper end of the rod inserted into the hole in the choke mechanism. That rod should have come with a clip.

i understand, that is why I posted this. The rod will not go into the choke mechanism, it binds up. Because I think my choke cover should have the exit hole for the rod towards the valve cover not inward towards the carb.

My 69 427/390 has the choke cover in the same spot and appears to be the same as yours. Not sure about the year diff. Might also be possible you have the wrong choke spring under the cover as there were differences in both covers and springs.

Is the small coil spring mounted on a screw right above the coil cover broken or not properly installed?
is the choke fully closed in your picture?
Are you inserting the end of the rod into the correct hole, the choke should be fully closed when try to align the rod with the hole?

yes, too all. 68 is a one yr only for this choke set up. So I need someone with a 68 and the original 68 carb in place. In order too see what is correct on the cover and spring. Thanks Troy

If you look on Corvette Central under "1968 choke" you can view pics of all the different components. It looks like the spring and cover are the same but the choke rod itself was a one off in 68.

just for the sake of trying it, remove your cover and connect the choke rod to the carburetor both ways to see if the choke will close and open correctly.

Mine works good now. The coil is different for the 209 carb choke. The cover IIRC is for a 3-two barrel 427. The link rod is unique also. I bought the coil, cover and link rod from one of the parts suppliers, just don't remember which one. I see someone drilled an extra hole in your paddle. Mine was drilled also. Those holes allowed the choke to be hooked up to the small block coil with some sort of fabricated link. At least whoever drilled yours did not drill through the numbers as they did on mine. I tigged the hole shut and restamped the numbers as best as I could, far from perfect. But, finding a 209 choke arm is nearly impossible.

On mine I'm using a hose from the distributor vacuum can to the vacuum fitting on the rear of the intake. I bought a line from Dr. Rebuild that was supposedly for the 68 427, however it was advertised to also fit the 327 and the 69 350 and 427. I don't think it was correct, it could have been made to work, but it did not fit like I thought it should. It would have taken vacuum from the front left port on the carb which I believe is ported vacuum. My engine seems to like manifold vacuum more than ported, so manifold it is. I could never find any definitive info on what was "right".

I believe the 68 was the same as the 69 and there was no ported carb vacuum yet. The only 2 usable vacuum sources on the carb are the front left or drivers side tube and the side outlet through the choke mechanism. Vacuum advance is off the front left port and the smog pump is off the side port but both are manifold vacuum on those earlier carbs.

Your secondary air valve link is installed upside down.
It is supposed to hang down - not sit up above the secondary air valves.

Hi Sixty Two !
Yep your secondary link is installed properly.

Your choke linkage looks good

It looks like that's the way it should / needs to be ?
